The Woodford Fire Brigade began in 1961 and has since been serving the local community of Woodford and Bushfield.

The Fire Danger Period has been amended for the following municipalities, and will now be lifted as of 1:00am Monday 20 April 2026:

🚒 Tomorrow morning, Woodford Fire Brigade will be rattling tins and raising money for the Royal Children’s Hospital, Good Friday Appeal.

We’ll be out and about around Woodford and Bushfield from 8:00am with lights flashing and sirens blasting. 🚨 🧑‍🚒

Last Tuesday, Woodford attended VEMTC Penshurst for some hot fire drills. 🔥

It was another successful session with our members expanding their skills and experience.

A huge thanks to the volunteer instructors and pad staff. 🧑‍🚒 🧯

🔥 Earlier today Woodford were paged to a grass and scrub fire spreading on Plummers Hill rd in Woodford.

With help from neighbouring brigades, the fire was brought under control quickly.

This is a timely reminder that as we move towards the end of summer, the vegetation is still extremely dry and fires can spread quickly.

👨‍🚒 This months brigade training focused on Breathing Apparatus (BA).

Members who are qualified in using BA do this at least every six months to maintain skills and competence.

Drills included rescue after a vehicle accident, internal firefighting techniques and donning the BA gear within 100 seconds.

A big thank you to VEMTC Penshurst for the use of their BA trailer.

⚠️ An Extreme Fire Danger Rating has been forecast for tomorrow, Tuesday 17 February 2026, in the Wimmera, North Central, Central, South West, West and South Gippsland forecast districts. Take action now to protect your life and property – fires will spread quickly and be extremely dangerous.

⚠️ A Total Fire Ban has also been declared for these forecast districts.

This means no fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air.

Yesterday, Woodford responded to a reported truck fire near the Hopkins Hwy at Purnim West.

Due to the potential size of the incident, this was escalated to ‘make tankers 10’.
The response included tankers from neighbouring brigades in Merri Group, Hopkins Curdies Group and FRV Station 70.

It was a huge effort and job well done from all involved.

Yesterday, four members from Woodford were deployed as part of Strike team 0504.

Working alongside other crews, from Merri and Hopkins Curdies groups, they were tasked with asset protection and extinguishing hot spots around Gellibrand in the Otway Ranges.

It was fantastic work from all involved, in anticipation for hotter weather over the next couple of days.

Great work from all emergency services involved today.

This also acts as an important reminder to be extra careful on the roads at this time of year.
