Our Grade 5/6 students were very lucky to welcome Michelle Scott Tucker, co-author of Spirit of the Crocodile, to our school today!
Michelle shared where the ideas for the novel came from and gave students a great insight into the writing and editing process. She encouraged our young writers to start with something they know and then build on their ideas, showing how even a simple moment can grow into an important part of a story.
Students also learnt how Aaron Fa’Aoso’s experiences growing up in the Torres Strait helped inspire the characters and events in the novel. Michelle spoke about some of the important themes explored in the story, including climate change, Torres Strait Islander culture and the strength of communities working together.
Our students asked some fantastic questions and were also treated to a special personalised video message from Aaron Fa’Aoso, which was a wonderful surprise!
A huge thank you to Michelle for taking the time to visit us and inspire our Grade 5/6 readers and writers. We loved having you!

Mathlympics & Family Maths Night

What a wonderful day of maths, teamwork and community spirit!

Yesterday, our students took part in Mathlympics, competing in their houses through a range of fun and challenging maths activities. Students worked collaboratively, solved problems, tested their mathematical thinking and proudly represented their houses.

We then welcomed our families back to school for Family Maths Night, providing an opportunity for students to share their learning and enjoy maths together as a family. Families explored a variety of fun maths games and activities that can easily be played at home, helping to build confidence and show that maths can be both meaningful and enjoyable beyond the classroom.

It was fantastic to see so many families involved and our school community coming together to learn, play and connect.

A big thank you to our students, families and staff for making the day such a wonderful celebration of mathematics and our school community.

Together, we’re building a community where maths is valued, shared and enjoyed.

The Foundation artists have been getting creative with Circle Monsters!

The students designed their very own colourful monsters by cutting out different shapes from patterned paper and combining them to create unique characters. We loved seeing their creativity, imagination and wonderful use of colour and shape!

Every monster has its own personality!

Well done, Foundation artists!
