WARNING DIESEL SPILL 🚧🚧🚧🚧🚧🚧❌❌❌❌❌❌❌

From the intersection of Wonthaggi & Inverloch Road for fifteen kilometres toward Korumburra a large amount of diesel has been spilt affecting both lanes.

Police, CFA from Kongwak and Korumburra are on scene along with Vic Roads and South Gippsland Shire Council to clean up the spill.

The road is open in both directions, but we ask that you drive very carefully as the rain mixed with diesel will make very slippery conditions. Please drive responsibly.

This morning (the 24th of May 2026), just before 8:00am, your local police from the Wonthaggi Police Station, the San Remo Police Station, the Bass Coast Highway Patrol, the Bass Coast Crime Investigation Unit and the Bass Coast Crime Scene Services attended a residential unit in McKenzie Street Wonthaggi.

Whilst police were speaking to seven other persons inside the residential unit, a 21-year-old male, who was wanted by police (he had featured on this page in recent weeks) because of the five warrants for his arrest, attempted to flee from the area, by running out of his hiding space in the interior of the dwelling.

The male clambered onto a shed, then onto the roof of the dwelling, and then ran up and down across multiple roofs, until he found the gap between the roofs way too expansive to jump across, and a standoff ensured, as the area was surrounded by police, preventing any escape.

Wonthaggi CFA Fire & Hazmat attended the scene, to provide specialist support to remove the male.

After almost half an hour of being encircled on the roof, the male made his own way down, and was arrested.

The male is currently in the cells.

Thank you to the many people in the community who provided the information which led to this arrest.

If you have any information regarding wanted people, or any other criminal activity, please contact Crime Stoppers Victoria on ☎️ 1800 333 000 or 💻 at: https://www.crimestoppersvic.com.au/report-a-crime/ Information can be provided anonymously. 🤐

Your local police would also like to thank the residents in the area who were disturbed by this incident for their tolerance and assistance, and also the many associates of the male who encouraged him to surrender himself when perched atop the roof.
