OPERATION PLAUSTRAM 🚚 🚛 🚜
Focusing on Heavy Vehicle Road Safety
(South Gippsland and Bass Coast)

At testing sites located in Leongatha and Kilcunda last week, members from Bass Coast Highway Patrol joined forces with officers from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and Sheriffs Office Victoria to inspect trucks and other heavy vehicles.

The sites featured the "shaker" which utilised mechanical methods to assist inspection of a vehicle's roadworthiness.

At the end of only two days operation, the results spotlighted some vehicles requiring further repairs as well as other infractions.

– one for work diary fault, one for heavy vehicle off route

Operation Commander - Senior Constable Bernard JONES said, "This is a timely reminder for all road users, not just trucks, to ensure their vehicles are in a safe and roadworthy condition."

On Tuesday the 1st of September 2026, police attended a rural property on Pound Creek Road, Pound Creek investigating a report of suspicious vehicles being seen at the address. Police arrived and observed two vehicles, a white Toyota Hilux and a Black BMW SUV. A quick registration check confirmed both vehicles were outstanding as stolen. The vehicles were being driven by males.
The male driver of the Hilux has driven at the Police vehicle deliberately ramming it, resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles. Both stolen vehicles left the scene and were observed driving extremely dangerously and erratically on Bass Highway and through the Wonthaggi CBD before traveling onto Loch-Wonthaggi Road in convoy.

The white Ute pictured is the actual vehicle that rammed police. This vehicle was driven in and around Inverloch and Wonthaggi. The Black BMW SUV was driving errand dangerously along Graham Street Wonthaggi.

At approximately 5:55pm on Saturday the 22nd of August 2026, Leongatha Police were patrolling in Leongatha when a silver Holden Commodore Station Wagon caught their attention.
Police intercepted the vehicle at Mobil Leongatha and observed the driver, well known to police, behind the wheel.
The 44yo male from Venus Bay was spoken to, and checks confirmed he had a Suspended Drivers Licence. A registration check revealed the NSW number plates did not match the vehicle.

Offences identified include:
🚔 Drive Whilst Suspended
🚔 Affix False Number Plates
🚔 Use Unregistered Motor Vehicle

This male will soon be receiving a summons to attend Korumburra Magistrates' Court at a later date.

*** CAN YOU IDENTIFY THIS PERSON ? ***

On the 9th August , 2026, at approximately 7:15pm, a single offender attended a service station on Reeve Street, Sale.

They entered the store, approached the counter and made demands for cash while making gun shapes with their hand.

They left empty handed and the victim contacted Police immediately afterwards.

The offender is described as tall, slim build, very dark skin and had an accent. He was wearing a white jacket with fur around the hood, dark coloured pants and dark coloured shoes.

Police have released images of a person they believe can assist them with their enquiries.
