At 11 am on Thursday 5 February, Wonthaggi Fire Brigade will test the siren. This is an important part of our maintenance. Please let anyone you know who is sensitive to loud noise know that this is happening.

Tuesday 27 Jan is another statewide total fire ban. No fires, solid fuel, gas or liquid bbq’s or ovens outside. No hot work like grinding and welding or gas cutting. Please take care if smoking. Like last time, take care of yourself and people close to you.

Happy Australia Day
Today two of our members were recognised for their outstanding contributions to the community.
First Lieutenant Jamie Moresco received the community service award and brigade Life Member Rod McLean was awarded citizen of the year.
Also this morning we deployed task force 0817 to Dargo.
Congratulations to Jamie and young fella on their outstanding achievements and we also wish TF0817 all the best tomorrow with the high expected temperature.

SMOKE IN THE AREA

Residents may notice smoke and a haze across Wonthaggi and surrounding areas today.
This is due to fires burning across the state, with smoke being carried by changing wind conditions.

While the smoke you see may not be from a local fire, it’s important to always stay alert and aware of your surroundings.

📞 Please call 000 immediately if you notice:
• Flames or an active fire
• Smoke that is thick, dark, or rapidly increasing
• Smoke with a visible source nearby
• The smell of smoke that is strong and persistent
• Anything that looks suspicious or out of the ordinary

It is always better to report and be safe. You will never get in trouble for calling 000 with a genuine concern.
