RATES REMINDER – FIRST INSTALMENT DUE TOMORROW

A reminder to ratepayers that the first instalment of 2026-27 rates is due 18 September 2026. If you’re planning to pay your rates in full, don’t forget there are also some great prizes up for grabs! 🎉

Ratepayers who pay their rates in full by 18 September 2026 will go into the draw for the chance to win one of these prizes:

🚒🚓🚑 EMERGENCY SERVICES THANK YOU EVENT 🚒🚓🚑

On Friday evening, the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu hosted its annual Emergency Services Thank You Event, bringing together local emergency service personnel for an evening of recognition and appreciation. 💙

Shire President Cr Stuart Boekeman opened the evening and welcomed representatives from across our local emergency services. On behalf of Council and the Shire, Cr Boekeman thanked those in attendance for the important role they play in protecting and supporting the Wongan-Ballidu community.🌱

The event recognised our local Bush Fire Brigade volunteers, Fire and Rescue volunteers, St John Ambulance volunteers and WA Police officers, acknowledging the time, skills and commitment they give to keeping our community safe.

The event reflected on the importance of recognising those who answer the call when help is needed. Emergency service personnel can be called upon at any hour to respond to fires, road crashes, medical emergencies and other challenging situations, often supporting people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Cr Stephenson, Cr Jarrod Hood and Cr Richards spoke about the commitment involved in emergency service work and volunteering, from ongoing training and late-night call-outs to responding to fires, road crashes, medical emergencies and other challenging situations. Also representing Council on the evening was Cr Sue Starcevich, alongside CEO Sam Dolzadelli and Deputy CEO Melinda Lymon.

DFES Wellness Chaplain Dennis Sudla also joined the evening and spoke about wellbeing and the support available to emergency services personnel, particularly following difficult or confronting incidents.

The evening provided an opportunity for our emergency service personnel to come together, enjoy good company and receive some well-deserved recognition for the contribution they make. The Shire sincerely thanks all of our local emergency service personnel for their continued commitment to Wongan-Ballidu. Thank you also to Rod Clarke and the Rotary Club of Wongan Hills for catering and assisting with the bar on the night. 🙏

Two weeks out from Bike it to Ballidu Gravel, and if you're a wheatbelt local without a plan for the long weekend, we've just solved that for you.

Saturday: barefoot bowls and burgers at the Rec Ground after the Grand Final.
Sunday: the big one. Bike it to Ballidu Gravel. 12km, 30km, 82km or 155km, race it or fondo it, your call.
Monday: recover, or just enjoy the extra day off.

And to our Wongan-Ballidu locals, this is your home turf, your long weekend, your event. Locals ride at a discount, so there's really no excuse not to be out there with everyone else.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE – CRAIG ROAD

Please be advised that Arc Infrastructure will be undertaking works on the rail crossing on Craig Road on Tuesday, 15 September.

To allow these works to be completed safely, Craig Road will be closed at the rail crossing for the duration of the works. Detours will be in place.

Motorists are asked to plan ahead, allow additional travel time and use an alternative route while the closure is in place.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these works are undertaken.

Please be advised that Dowerin-Kalannie Road will be closed from Monday 14 September to Friday 18 September 2026.

📍 Closure:
Dowerin-Kalannie Road from Hospital Road, Burakin, through to the Dowerin-Kalannie Road/Rabbit Proof Fence Road intersection, Kirwan.

🔵 Detour:
A detour will be in place via Hospital Road and Rabbit Proof Fence Road.

Traffic management will be in place throughout the works.

⚠️ Please follow all signage and drive with caution when travelling through the area.
