ABC Sydney called Deidre Stuart about the massive coal mine expansion proposed in the Woronora drinking water catchment.

The Illawarra Mercury report "Peabody would need a new mining lease to be approved before it can lodge its full development application, and has asked the NSW government to accept the proposal on the fast track of state significant development (SSD).

It also needs a new exploration lease, and has another exploration lease called ELA 6929 under assessment by the NSW government for a previous application to add a new longwall and realign another.

That longwall application proved highly controversial and is still in the planning process, with government agencies wanting more information on greenhouse gas emissions and other details.

This new SSD expansion plan goes far beyond that small proposal, and would add 22 new longwall panels underneath the Metropolitan Special Area of the water catchment,"

We welcome the NSW Health announcement that after last years successful pill testing trial at Yours & Owls festival, drug checking will be expanded to 15 festivals across NSW. Pill testing saves lives.

Unharm are calling for drug checking to be expanded to permanent and community based sites across NSW. "Pill testing (also known as drug checking) at festivals reaches people who can get to a festival. But it can’t reach the people dying at home. Community based drug checking would reach people where most of the harm actually happens, and provide continual, real time insights into rapidly changing drug markets."

"The NSW Government's own alerts increasingly show dangerous opioids like nitazenes are turning up in the community, in counterfeit pharmaceuticals, ecstasy, he**in, co***ne and vapes. On multiple occasions in the past two years, people in NSW overdosed on an opioid they never meant to take. Meanwhile more than 70% of overdoses happen in people's homes.
These people didn't have a way to check for hidden danger. They need a way to check, because checking is the only way to actually know what's in the bag."

Shark nets don't keep people safe. No least because sharks can swim around, over or under the nets! But they do kill whales, turtles, dolphins and critically endangered, harmless grey nurse sharks.

With nets due to once again go in off 51 NSW beaches from 1 September isn't it time we got real about shark safety while protecting our marine life? The evidence is well and truly in that drones work and nets don't. So let's make this the summer that we get real about how to be shark smart.
