🍟 Would you like chips with your photos?
We hold photo negatives from the 1960s which have vinegar syndrome. These films give off a vinegar smell due to acidic deterioration. Before they are lost forever, our Local Studies team have been digitising and putting the originals in freezers to preserve them.
Even in their deteriorated state, these photos remain incredibly valuable. They capture moments from Wollongong’s past and help tell the story of who we were. While we know the details behind many of these images, there are still gaps in the story. Photos in order:
P34899 John Geloren and Alan Chilby playing on the dodgem cars at the Bulli Show
P34944 Master Builders Club New Year party
P34875 The Weird Mob women bowlers at Northern Bowl Bellambi
