Our second Wodonga SAILS group also had a session this month about the topic of health and hygiene. We had special guest speakers from Albury Wodonga Health Public Health Unit.

We discussed the importance of hygiene and safe habits, built skills to speak up when your hygiene might be impacted, and looked at issues such as allergies and ensuring people around you are aware and can make adjustments to your needs.

Last week we said farewell to our beloved Claire, who worked as an Advocate with RDAS for seven years. Many people will know Claire's kind and gentle spirit and benefited from the compassionate and tireless work she did to help them have their voices heard. While Claire is moving on to a new role which we know she will thrive in, she will be sadly missed at RDAS. We wish you all the best Claire and hope to see you around.

Our most recent SAILS groups had a self-care theme. In Griffith we continued our scrapbooking project with a discussion about physical self-care, hygiene, grooming and the importance of looking and feeling good. In Wagga the focus was mental self-care, where our group was privileged to have Karen from SHARE Yoga Yoga join us to demonstrate some simple yoga movements and strategies for when you're feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Wodonga covered the same yoga for mental health topic with Leanne from Mysa Movement, but with an emphasis on talking to people you feel safe with and not being afraid to ask for help.

Reminder: AusAlert testing happening soon

On Monday 27 July, all mobile devices in Australia will be sent a test alert. This includes most smartphones, smartwatches and tablets.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices. It’s a fast and reliable way to help people be informed and better prepared during local and national emergencies.

Recently our Advocates in Wagga and Albury represented RDAS at the Tertiary and Careers Expo Day. This is an annual event hosted by local Career Advisor Networks across the Western Riverina, Wagga and Albury-Wodonga.
RDAS is proud to be involved in community events and expos like this, promoting advocacy services and demonstrating advocacy as a rewarding career path for young people exploring their post-school options.
