I love these awards. They are a great source of encouragement and support for our youths.
As a Councillor l often get the opportunity to meet such talented younger community members. We are lucky to have so many.
Jack was one of them, he was one of many who received awards for their achievements this year. Well done Jack. ⭐️

Time and time again l get people in the community asking why Councillors cannot have a say in some planning decisions.
We are limited, l don’t think we should be.
We represent the local community and should have a position in the decision making.
However we are increasingly being left out.
This is why. Sorry the Herald Sun have a pay wall, however l think the headline says it all. ⬇️

I would like to sincerely thank Wodonga Council staff for organising this vigil at short notice, particularly at such an extremely busy time of the year. Your efforts in bringing the community together to show support for Dr Helen Haines, her family and friends during this very difficult time are greatly appreciated.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank the community members who have been working behind the scenes to help make this community vigil possible. 🙏❤️

Tonight, Wodonga Council will illuminate the Water Tower and The Cube Wodonga white as a symbol of solidarity and support for Helen Haines, her family and all those affected by Monday's shocking events.

For those wishing to come together to show their support, the community is welcome to gather in The Cube Courtyard from 6pm.

This will be an informal opportunity for quiet reflection. There is no formal program and people are welcome to visit at a time that suits them, whether to pause for a moment or stay a little longer.

Wodonga Mayor Cr Michael Gobel will share a brief message with those gathered at 7pm and there will opportunities available for anyone wishing to leave a written message of support.

Helen has long championed the strength of communities standing together and tonight is an opportunity to reaffirm the unity, compassion and solidarity that define our region.

A couple of months ago, I was lucky enough to travel to Turkey and Greece, and I absolutely loved the experience.

But while I was there, something really stood out to me.

Everywhere I went, I saw their national flags proudly displayed — at airports, beaches, train stations, throughout their cities, on bridges and even on the tops of hills.

It made me stop and think:

Why is it that in Australia, we sometimes seem reluctant to display our own flag?

Why don’t we see the Australian flag proudly displayed more often? Why don’t we parade it, celebrate it and show it the same way many other countries proudly display theirs?

For me, this isn’t about politics. It’s about pride in our country, respect for our history and appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy.

My grandfather went to war for this country and put his life on the line to defend it. Thankfully, he came home. Many others didn’t. They made the ultimate sacrifice so that generations like ours could enjoy the freedom and way of life we have today.

I believe we should remember that.

Australia is an extraordinary country. In my opinion, it is the best country in the world — and I think we should be proud to say that.

Being proud of our Australian flag doesn’t mean we believe Australia is perfect. It means we value our country, respect those who came before us, acknowledge our history and appreciate the opportunity we have to live in this wonderful nation.

Perhaps it’s time we became a little more comfortable showing our national pride again.

Let’s fly the Australian flag. Let’s respect it. Let’s celebrate it. And let’s be proud to be Australian. 🇦🇺

Crime is out of control in this State. People and Businesses don’t feel safe.
Change needs to happen, we have been putting up with this for far too long.

What’s your thoughts on this?.. interested to know.
