ABOUT WODONGA
Wodonga is Victoria's fastest growing regional city and can be found on the Victorian/New South Wales border, about 300 kilometres north-east of Melbourne. Albury-Wodonga combined has a population of approximately 99,000. Wodonga includes the main urban centre of the city, as well as the rural localities Bandiana, Baranduda, Barnawartha North, Bonegilla, Castle Creek, Ebden, Gateway

Island, Huon Creek, Killara, Leneva and Staghorn Flat. Wodonga's boundaries stretch from the Murray River to the north, Towong Shire in the east and Indigo Shire in the south and west. WHAT DO PEOPLE LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN WODONGA? Wodonga is a great place in which to live because it has excellent facilities for people of all ages, yet has a relaxed community feel. Wodonga has more than 80km of bike and walking paths, providing the perfect opportunity to walk by the Murray River or enjoy one of the scenic routes that link the city. Picturesque parks and gardens are dotted throughout the community providing an ideal spot to picnic. Wodonga is strategically placed between Melbourne and Sydney on the Hume Highway, with both cities easily reached by road, rail or air. Locals and visitors can access the renowned wine areas of Rutherglen, Milawa and King Valley in less than an hour, as well as the historic towns of Beechworth, Yackandandah and Chiltern. The snowfields of North East Victoria can be reached by car in just over an hour. 80 per cent of Australia's population can be reached by road/rail overnight while the Albury airport services Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney regularly. WHAT ARE WODONGA'S KEY ATTRACTIONS? Belvoir Park features a super playground, an off-leash dog park with agility equipment, walking tracks, picnic facilities, large open spaces and a lake that is home to a number of water birds. The Bonegilla Migrant Experience was Australiaโ€™s first, largest and longest operating migrant reception centre and the first Australian home for some 320,000 post-war migrants from more than 30 countries. Today, the centre stands as strong testimony to the bravery of post-war immigrants who came to and settled in Australia. Lake Hume is one of Wodongaโ€™s most defining features and is a haven for recreational boaters, skiers, swimmers and anglers. Wodongaโ€™s hillsides and parkland reserves provide the ideal bushwalking, bird watching and hiking tracks for the novice as well as the experienced walker. The Bandiana Army Museum is one of the largest and most diversified army museums in Australia. Gateway Village has something for everyone with HotHouse Theatre, a Jazz Club, the Wodonga Visitor Information Centre and La Maison Cafe located in the same precinct. You will also find the Hume Murray Farmer's Market every second Saturday between 8am and noon as well as GIGS Fine Art Gallery, Creatorsโ€™ Artspace and the Woodcrafters Cottage.

As former high school and university teachers of ecology ๐ŸŒฑ, Susan and Geoff are passionate about sharing their extensive knowledge of food production and home gardening with the community.

"We are excited to support others to grow and share interesting and excitingly nutritious food - and we can't wait to learn from other keen gardeners," the couple shared.

Geoff is especially keen on getting awesome flavours from the garden with a focus on chillies, garlic and herbs, which he turns into tasty oils and condiments.

Whether you're a seasoned gardener, a proud veggie grower or simply have a little extra produce from your backyard to contribute โ€“ you're invited to be part of this nourishing new community initiative โ™ป๏ธ.

Feedback from the community shaped the design for the local playground and the new features will include a rocker, large multiplay unit and swing set with a standard seat and a toddler seat.

The mulitplay unit will contain a glider, junior and senior slides with an array of climbing, balance and agility areas to allow children to progress across the sections as skills develop.

The addition of extra large roofed platforms will provide shade coverage.

The works are part of the councilโ€™s ongoing playground renewal program and will commence on ๐–๐ž๐๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐๐š๐ฒ, ๐’๐ž๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ— (Please note, the commencement date has been moved forward a day). Completion of works is expected by Monday, September 21.

One of the special opportunities that came from hosting the Governor of Victoria in Wodonga recently was the chance to share our region's important role in post-war history.

Between 1947 and 1971, more than 320,000 migrants from across Europe and the rest of the world travelled through Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre to begin a fresh life in Australia ๐Ÿ’ผ. This site has now been preserved for the community to discover and offers a rare opportunity to personally reconnect with Australiaโ€™s migrant history and find family connections.

During the visit, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC enjoyed an in-depth guided tour of the site, exploring the remaining buildings from the vast original camp, now preserved at Block 19.

The John Schubert Drive culvert replacement works have unfortunately experienced unforeseen delays resulting from environmental conditions and site factors that differed from the initially identified works.

We have been actively working through the appropriate steps to resume this project, with a replacement contractor now selected to complete the works โœ….

These works are expected to resume onsite shortly, with completion of the project anticipated by the end of October, subject to weather and site conditions.

We understand the frustration this disruption has caused for residents and regular users of John Schubert Drive, and our focus has remained on remediating outstanding issues, protecting community interests and completing these works as quickly and safely as possible.

We appreciate your patience and will continue to keep the community updated as this project moves forward.
