Australia’s social security and employment services systems are punitive and harmful, forcing millions onto meagre and contingent payments designed to keep them insecure and compliant.

From failing to act on the Robodebt Royal Commission recommendations, maintaining the racist compulsory income management regime, and refusing to raise the rate of income support, Federal Labor has proven to be no better than the Coalition when it comes to protecting the most at-risk Australians.

Please join Greens Social Services spokesperson Senator Penny Allman-Payne for a discussion on how we got here, what the Greens are fighting for, and how we build a social safety net that raises people out of poverty and lifts us all up.

We would love to see you on Tuesday night!

The CLP Government is planning changes to the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007 which will see more Aboriginal children removed and will make it harder for them to be reunified with their families.

The proposed changes risk entrenching the vicious cycle of trauma, poverty and incarceration for more generations of Aboriginal children in the NT.

The NT Greens oppose the watering down of the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle, which is a necessary protection that must remain embedded in the Act.

Families and children must be supported to thrive, which means addressing housing insecurity, ending poverty, and ensuring proper resourcing and access to alcohol and other drugs support services.

The CLP’s changes must be rejected completely and the NT Government must commit to genuine and respectful partnerships with Aboriginal families and communities to ensure the best outcomes for children.

The NT Greens stand in solidarity with Larrakia leader Eric Fejo who attended court today for his arrest during the peaceful protests against the appointment of David Connolly as Territory Administrator.

So many members from the community came today to show their support.

We are grateful for Eric Fejo's leadership in pushing back against the appointment of a man unfit for such a role.

Racism is not welcome anywhere, and especially not in the role of the Administrator of the Northern Territory.

The Albanese Labor Government is putting $375 billion into nuclear submarines under the AUKUS deal and is expanding the US military presence in the NT. Meanwhile the Albanese Labor Government is gutting the NDIS, leaving over 160,000 families without critical assistance. Public money should not be going into supporting the US war machine. As Australian Education Union (NT) member Nicole says, public schools are underfunded — there are so many ways that $375 billion could be used in the community to make the urgent investments needed in health, housing and education. We gather outside of Luke Gosling MP’s office to demand that AUKUS be scrapped, and that US military bases in the NT be closed.
