Please Please Please have working smoke alarms!!!!! YOU WILL NOT WAKE UP OR BE ABLE TO GET OUT ONCE A FIRE TAKES HOLD!

As firefighters, we’re trained to “risk a little, to save a little. Risk a lot, to save a lot.”

Earlier today, crews in Sydney went above and beyond in an attempt to save multiple lives at a well-developed house fire in Hinchinbrook. Despite best efforts, multiple have died at the scene, whilst some have been transported to hospital.

What makes it even worse is that these deaths may have been prevented if only the property had working smoke alarms.

Our thoughts are with the victims of this tragic incident, including the first responders that gave their most to protect those involved. Especially the 2 firefighters who were injured in their efforts to assist.

We urge you to make sure the people you care about are safe, including your non-English speaking friends, your elderly neighbour or your ‘she’ll be right’ uncle. Ensure yours and their smoke alarms are working, and that your family has a fire escape plan. For more info go to https://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/

Yesterday CAFS pumper 40 assisted National Parks and Wildlife Services at an organised hazard reduction at Macquarie Park. Along with crews from Hornsby, Woollahra, Eastwood, Ashfield and Leichhardt firefighters protected assets in the area and manned containment lines. The burn began at around 4pm and was continued into the evening. CP40 also utilised CAFS capabilities to protect two small structures that backed onto containment lines within the Macquarie University grounds. A job well done and well organised by NPWS.
