🏥Take a look inside the new state-of-the-art paediatric facilities at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, with construction now complete on the $659.1 million Stage 2 Redevelopment.

The new 14-storey building marks a major expansion of intensive care and specialist services for children across NSW and is due to welcome patients in the coming months.

Designed with children and families at its heart, the redevelopment includes expanded neonatal and paediatric intensive care units, cancer and oncology services, a new perioperative unit with operating theatres and interventional laboratories, a state-wide burns service, robotic-supported pharmacy services, and a new Surgical Short Stay Unit.

Featuring single-patient rooms, natural light, calming interiors and integrated technology, the new space creates a welcoming, home-like environment while supporting world-class care.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead Car Park has won the Car Parks Open Price category in the 2025 Master Builders Excellence in Construction Awards.

Known as the “Dragonfly car park”, its design blends art with functionality and sustainability, and was constructed as part of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead Stage 2 Redevelopment.

With almost 1,400 solar panels within the façade and roof, the solar panels absorb sunlight from both sides, generating over 700 kW of renewable energy - enough to power 65 homes yearly. This solar energy will power parts of the hospital and 75 EV charging stations, with an additional 125 EV stations in the future.

Renewable energy and electrification forms part of Health Infrastructure’s commitment to the NSW Government's goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Planning for NSW’s second dedicated paediatric hospice has taken a key step forward with the appointment of the lead design team for 'Mounties Care Cottage', to be built at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The NSW Government is investing $22.3 million in the project, with a further $13 million over 10 years from Mounties Group through Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. The facility will provide specialist care and support for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, in a purpose-built, home-like environment.

The new hospice is inspired by the story of Rio Fowler and his family, and the work of Rio’s Legacy, a reminder of the importance of services like this for children and families across NSW.

The design team — RP Infrastructure, Billard Leece Partnership, and Arup — will now work closely with Health Infrastructure, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, staff and families to shape the planning and design for the new facility.
