New England NSW SES

New England NSW SES The NSW SES is the local combat agency for floods and storms in the New England/North West Zone

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency, preparedness and response service dedicated to assisting the community of NSW. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 229 units located throughout the state. The units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our core responsibilities are for flood, sto

rm and tsunami operations, the NSW SES also provides support to general rescue efforts in the State. This includes Road Crash Rescue (RCR), Vertical Rescue (VR), Urban Search and Rescue (USR), evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have also been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The NSW SES assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW. The NSW SES also partners with local communities through Community Engagement programs like FloodSafe, StormSafe and TsunamiSafe. These programs are supported by strategies and resources, are delivered locally through a range of activities and events and are a priority for the NSW SES. The aim is to engage at-risk communities on preparedness, response and recovery measures so that there is no loss of life and impacts caused by these events are minimised. This in turn builds community resilience to floods, storms and tsunami. For further information visit the NSW SES website at http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/

🎄 Christmas Came Early for Toomelah!
The NSW SES has been proud to support the small First Nations community of Toomelah, which faces regular challenges from flooding. During a recent community preparedness forum, residents raised a simple but vital request: sandbags... And sandbags we have!

🚚 Last Friday, NSW SES provided 4,000 sandbags to help bolster flood resilience in the area. But that’s not all, we also donated a submersible pump to the Toomelah LALC, a powerful tool that will make a real difference when floodwaters rise again.

🤝 We’re committed to continuing this important work with communities across the region in 2026 and beyond. From all of us at NSW SES, we wish you a safe, joyful, and relaxing holiday season!

The Bureau of Meteorology is advising that much of NSW is at risk of thunderstorm activity today, with some regions likely to experience severe storms.

Large hail, damaging winds, and intense rainfall are possible across the western ranges, slopes and plains, as well as parts of the northern and central coast. Some storm cells may produce heavy, slow-moving rainfall, leading to flash flooding, particularly across the Illawarra, Sydney Metropolitan Area, Hunter and southern Mid North Coast.

Please remember: If it’s flooded, forget it.

Thunderstorms are already active in parts of Sydney, the Illawarra and the Alpine region, and storm activity may continue late into tonight and into early Saturday, with a possible redevelopment of storms in the far west as a cold front approaches. Conditions can change quickly, and storms may form with little notice, so please stay alert for updates. We’ll continue to share new information as it becomes available.

We’re encouraging everyone to take a few moments now to get storm ready
• Secure or pack away loose outdoor items
• Park vehicles away from trees where possible
• Clear gutters and drains
• Trim low or overhanging branches that could cause damage in strong winds

For assistance from NSW SES, call 132 500.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 000 immediately.
Stay safe, everyone. 🌩️⚡️

11/12/2025

The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that there is still a thunderstorm risk across our area today, with part of our area still facing possible severe thunderstorms.

As in previous days, we are asking residents to prepare the house and yard (where possible) , move vehicles from under trees and into cover and if you are able, give your gutters a clean out and cut back any low branches that may impact the property if a severe storm develops.

These thunderstorms are still likely to continue tomorrow and possibly into Saturday, we will update everyone as soon as we have the information, but there is potential for any thunderstorms to develop quickly with little warning.

If you do find yourself needing assistance from the NSW SES please give us a call on 132 500, or if your situation is an emergency always call 000.

Thanks everyone, please stay safe.

10/12/2025

The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that Thunderstorms are possible today and potentially over the next few days across large parts of NSW.

We are asking residents to prepare where possible by moving vehicles from under trees and into cover, tie down or pack away any loose items around your house and yard and cut back any branches and clean gutters in preparation for any rain these storms may bring.

As always with these Thunderstorms, isolated severe storms are possible, and these storms can bring with them heavy isolated rainfall which has the potential to lead to flash flooding.

Please always drive to the conditions, never drive through, enter or play in floodwater as you don't know what else has been washed away during flash flooding.

The NSW SES are here to help if needed, if you do need our assistance, please call 132 500 and if your situation is an emergency always call 000.

Thanks everyone, please stay safe.

⚠️⚠️ Thunderstorm Forecast ⚠️⚠️

The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that thunderstorms are again possible across parts of the Northern Tablelands this afternoon and evening, and likely in the upper North-East corner of our area.

As always, we are advising residents where possible to move vehicles from under trees and into cover and secure any loose items around your house and yard.

Given what we have seen across the state in the last couple of days, these thunderstorms could bring damaging winds, large hail and localised heavy rainfall, which is possible with severe thunderstorms (potential supercells).

Our NSW SES teams have been out and about the last few days assisting the multiple impacted areas and are here to support if we see these storms develop again later today. If you do need assistance from the NSW SES give us a call on 132 500 or if your situation is an emergency always call 000.

Please keep in mind that there have been over 2200 calls to the SES for assistance since 10am yesterday, and our members have been working around the clock to assist the community.

The SES is here to help during emergencies like severe storm damage or risks to life and property. For minor tree jobs in your yard, please contact a local tree service instead, so we can stay available for those in urgent need.

Thanks everyone, please stay safe.

ℹℹ Operational Update ℹℹ

Update to current storm situation.

We are aware that there have been some delay's getting through to the SES on the 132 500 number overnight. Since 10am Wednesday morning the NSW SES has received over 2,200 calls requesting assistance across the state, please continue to use this number and keep 000 for life threating emergencies only.

We had teams around the Tamworth and Quirindi areas responding to jobs until 2am this morning and most of these teams are back out again today.

We are doing our best to get through all the jobs, so again please be patient and remember the people coming to assist are volunteers, they are putting a hold on their normal work and lives to assist the community.

There is the chance of more thunderstorms again this afternoon, at the moment it looks like these will be more focused around the Northern Tablelands from Armidale up to Tenterfield, however there is the possibility of isolated storms around Tamworth, Manilla and up to Inverell.

Before making a call to the SES, please remember we are here to help during emergencies like severe storm damage or risks to life and property. For minor tree jobs in your yard, please contact a local tree service instead, so we can stay available for those in urgent need.

With hot and stormy weather predicted for this week, we urge people to prepare their properties as early as possible.

Clean those gutters, clear your yard of debris and secure yard furniture/toys. Bring animals inside where possible and make sure important documents are secured and able to be accessed easily if needed.

Whether it's storms 🌩️ or fires🔥, it is best to be prepared. Visit www.ses.nsw.com.au and www.rfs.nsw.com.au to find more information on how to prepare for both. It's never too early to have an evacuation plan, and always better to have it and not need it!
