🎄 Christmas Came Early for Toomelah!
The NSW SES has been proud to support the small First Nations community of Toomelah, which faces regular challenges from flooding. During a recent community preparedness forum, residents raised a simple but vital request: sandbags... And sandbags we have!

🚚 Last Friday, NSW SES provided 4,000 sandbags to help bolster flood resilience in the area. But that’s not all, we also donated a submersible pump to the Toomelah LALC, a powerful tool that will make a real difference when floodwaters rise again.

🤝 We’re committed to continuing this important work with communities across the region in 2026 and beyond. From all of us at NSW SES, we wish you a safe, joyful, and relaxing holiday season!

The Bureau of Meteorology is advising that much of NSW is at risk of thunderstorm activity today, with some regions likely to experience severe storms.

Large hail, damaging winds, and intense rainfall are possible across the western ranges, slopes and plains, as well as parts of the northern and central coast. Some storm cells may produce heavy, slow-moving rainfall, leading to flash flooding, particularly across the Illawarra, Sydney Metropolitan Area, Hunter and southern Mid North Coast.

Please remember: If it’s flooded, forget it.

Thunderstorms are already active in parts of Sydney, the Illawarra and the Alpine region, and storm activity may continue late into tonight and into early Saturday, with a possible redevelopment of storms in the far west as a cold front approaches. Conditions can change quickly, and storms may form with little notice, so please stay alert for updates. We’ll continue to share new information as it becomes available.

We’re encouraging everyone to take a few moments now to get storm ready
• Secure or pack away loose outdoor items
• Park vehicles away from trees where possible
• Clear gutters and drains
• Trim low or overhanging branches that could cause damage in strong winds

For assistance from NSW SES, call 132 500.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 000 immediately.
Stay safe, everyone. 🌩️⚡️

We’re encouraging everyone to take a few moments to get storm-ready. Secure or pack away loose items around your property, park vehicles away from trees where possible, clear gutters, and trim any low or overhanging branches that could cause damage in strong winds.
Storm activity may continue into tomorrow and possibly Saturday. Conditions can change quickly, and storms may form with little notice, so please keep an eye on updates, we’ll share new information as soon as we have it.

The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that Thunderstorms are possible today and potentially over the next few days across large parts of NSW.

We are asking residents to prepare where possible by moving vehicles from under trees and into cover, tie down or pack away any loose items around your house and yard and cut back any branches and clean gutters in preparation for any rain these storms may bring.

As always with these Thunderstorms, isolated severe storms are possible, and these storms can bring with them heavy isolated rainfall which has the potential to lead to flash flooding.

Please always drive to the conditions, never drive through, enter or play in floodwater as you don't know what else has been washed away during flash flooding.

The NSW SES are here to help if needed, if you do need our assistance, please call 132 500 and if your situation is an emergency always call 000.

Thanks everyone, please stay safe.
