What does this mean for all those carbon credits? How long are carbon sinks going to stay sinks?

The woody trunks and branches that make up Queensland’s tropical rainforests have switched from net carbon absorbers to a carbon source.

Huge news, after being shamed for their huge waiting list Labor has finally acted.

There are still 200,000 waiting though, we can't let up

Max spoke at Sunday's March for Palestine.

It's time for our government and parties to go beyond words. Stop export weapons, sanction Israel, stop the genocide.

The reality of of Labor's promise to cut a bit of student debt.

In other countries, they tax big corporations and the fossil fuel industry and provide free education for everyone.

In Australia, we get piecemeal concessions at the whim of the government and instead give away billions to multinational corporations.

Hidden in this year's budget. The removal of renewable energy targets

This detail buried in the LNP's Budget has actually shocked me.

They're not just cutting renewable energy targets - they’re literally ditching the measurement altogether.

And it gets worse: the Budget also includes $1 billion to build THREE new gas-fired power stations, including using CleanCo - the state’s supposed renewable energy company.

They're also proposing to extend coal-fired power stations into the 2040s. They haven't even told us how much it'll cost, but based on estimates of around $400 million to keep Callide open for another 3 years than planned, you can bet it won't be cheap.

Depressingly, Labor also supports new gas. But at least they measured how far behind we were on the renewables transition! Meanwhile, the LNP’s response to the unravelling global climate crisis is to simply remove the evidence that they’re making it worse.

After recent floods, torrential rain and climate change going to make it worse, it's shocking to see flood strategies cut and slashed.

You can’t say you’re building a resilient city while cutting $35.7 million from drainage and stormwater projects. We’ve just had floods, extreme heat, and the tail of ex-Cyclone Alfred. Climate change is here, and its getting worse under the LNP.

I’ve just come from the Sustainable Cities Estimates session. I got some useful info, but the process was dragged out by LNP Councillors wasting time by asking for generic program descriptions instead of meaningful budget figures. The LNP administration clearly don't care about how seriously Brisbane City Council needs to plan for our climate future.

One of the most significant budgets (in a bad way) and Labor hasn't even showed up.

One of the most significant budgets (in a bad way) and Labor hasn't even showed up.

One of the worst Council budgets in years. Higher rates. Slashed services. And Labor Councillors? Nowhere to be seen.

I’m here in Budget Estimates grilling the LNP on where your money’s going - and why this budget delivers so little for our communities.

If you’ve got a Labor Councillor, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Even if they didn’t bother showing up, their staff are here quietly taking notes on all the work your Greens reps are doing.
