I often hear from residents looking for ways to meet people, get involved locally or find activities for their families.

Whether you've recently moved to the area or have lived here for years, I encourage you to explore what's on offer at your local community centre.

From playgroups and fitness classes to cultural activities, workshops and community events, there are plenty of opportunities to make new connections, learn new skills and participate in community life.

If you haven't visited your local community centre recently, now might be the perfect time to discover a new program, activity, or event close to home.

Manor Lakes has a brilliant new outdoor space to enjoy!

At Manor Lakes Community Centre, part of the car park has been transformed into a vibrant new space for play and activity, featuring a basketball half court, mini volleyball/badminton court, foursquare court, seating and shelter.

This $190,000 project, funded by a State Government grant from the from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing creates more opportunities for young people and their families to stay active and enjoy time outdoors close to home.

As our community grows, spaces like this play an important role in bringing people together and supporting active, connected neighbourhoods.

I’ve recently heard from a number of residents about illegal truck parking.

A reminder that it’s illegal to park heavy and long vehicles in residential streets for more than one hour.

Council is continuing to conduct regular patrols and enforcement, with illegal truck parking accounting for 9% of all infringements issued in Wyndham.

If you're experiencing this issue in your area, please report it directly to Council so it can be investigated at https://wyndham.t1cloud.com/apps/KnowledgeBase/requests-and-issues

Your reports help Council identify hotspots and target enforcement.

Traffic Update: Sapling Boulevard & Padma Boulevard

I know many residents have raised concerns about right-turn access onto Dohertys Road from these two streets, so I wanted to provide a quick update.

Council engaged a traffic consultant to assess the feasibility of introducing fully controlled right turns from both Sapling Boulevard and Padma Boulevard.

The modelling suggests that these changes are feasible and can be implemented without major impacts on traffic flow along Doherty’s Road, including at the Derrimut Road intersection.

An initial report has been provided to the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and Council is working with DTP to seek final approval for the change. This approval is required as traffic signals are a Major Traffic Control item that requires State approval.

While this represents great progress, we also note that the approval process with DTP is expected to take time as they have a number of technical factors to consider. At this stage implementation is anticipated within the next twelve months.

I'll continue to provide updates as key milestones are reached.

Another milestone reached at Doherty’s House Café!

The new space is coming to life, with the internal structural slab now complete and framing and carpentry works underway.

Most recently, roof beams have been installed, marking another exciting milestone for the project.

Keep an eye on the site over the coming weeks as the café really starts to take shape.

To help our community stay active during the winter months, Wyndham City has switched on LED lighting at six local reserves.

• Hogans Road Reserve, Hoppers Crossing
• Dunnings Road Reserve, Point Cook
• Wootten Road Reserve, Tarneit
• Galvin Park Reserve, Werribee
• Presidents Park Minkey Pitch, Wyndham Vale
• Wyndham Vale South Reserve

Exciting news – LED sports lighting upgrades at Williams Landing Reserve tennis courts 5 and 6 and Werribee’s Glen Orden Reserve oval 1 are now complete!

Delivered through Wyndham City’s ongoing Sports Facility Strategy and Outdoor Recreation Renewal Program, the new lights provide improved visibility for safer evening training and competition.

They also require significantly less energy and maintenance, which reduces operational costs and environmental impact over the long term.
