Last night, crews from Kwinana South, alongside Oakford Bush Fire Brigade, Jandakot Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and Baldivis Volunteer Fire & Emergency Services. STN 3123, responded to reports of a scrub fire in Oakford.

While many associate bushfire risk with the hotter months, this incident is an important reminder that fires can still ignite and spread during cooler weather — even with recent rain.

A small fire can escalate quickly under the right conditions. Stay safe.

Over the past few weeks the brigade has responded to multiple 000 calls for what appear to be escaped or reignited burns.

These can be extremely hazardous as, at times these burns if not properly extinguished will reignite hours or days later. Often when no one is around.

The shared post has all the rules regarding burning in restricted burning periods. However alot of these should always be followed.

👉 ensure there is at least one able bodied person with the burn at all times
👉 ensure there are sufficient fire breaks surrounding your burn
👉ensure there is no flammable material within 5m of your burn
👉And ensure you have a means to extinguish your burn completey upon completion.

Lastly, if your unsure about your burn or want some advice feel free to drop us a message and we can provide some assistance or even complete a Hazard Reduction burn.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

🔥🔥Restricted Burning Period🔥🔥

As of today, 1st April 2026, the City of Kwinana entered the restricted burning period. Here are a few things you should know before lighting up.

⚠️Burning is a no go if the rating is HIGH or above, in our fire weather district "Swan Coastal South".
⚠️Ensure you have the means to control not just the fire you plan to have, but the fire you might end up with.
⚠️Remain in attendance at your burn until extinguished.
🚫 Burning is not allowed on properties in the urban and industrial areas.

If you are burning a single pile of garden refuse, you may burn it under the following conditions:
👉 The fire danger must be Moderate or below;
👉 The pile can be no bigger than 1 cubic metre;
👉 No flammable matter is to be within 5m of the fire;
👉 The fire is lit between 6pm and 11pm and is completely extinguished before midnight on the same day;
👉 At least one able bodied person is present at the site of the fire at all times until it is completely extinguished; and
👉 When the fire is no longer required,the person ensures that the fire is completely extinguished.
👉 Register your burn with the DFES Communications Centre on (08) 9395 9209 to avoid a visit from us.

🚫 If you cannot meet all of the conditions above, you will need a FREE permit from a Fire Control Officer (FCO). Call (08) 9439 0400 to contact a FCO.

🔥🔥If you lose control of your burn or see an un-attended fire call 000 immediately.🔥🔥

Kwinana South Bush Fire Brigade were mobilised to a major fire in Mundijong on Monday morning at 1am. The fire behaviour was extreme for that time of night.

We are all so lucky no significant damage was reported.

Our members assisted our neighbours for around 22 hours, with a couple of our appliances committed during that time.

One thing that stood out at this fire was, if access is made easy to your property, there is more chance we can get in and help!! Cleared fire breaks and access tracks make a huge difference.
