Most people will never understand it.

They’ll see the truck go by. They’ll hear the sirens. They’ll assume someone is there to take care of it.

And most of the time… they’re right. But what they don’t see is everything behind that moment.

The interrupted dinners. The missed time with family. The early mornings after late nights. The second thoughts… and the decision to go anyway.

They don’t see the quiet conversations after a tough call.

Or the ones who sit in their trucks for a minute before going back inside. Or the people who wonder if they’re doing enough… and still keep showing up.

This has never been about being perfect. It’s never been about having more time than anyone else. It’s about choosing to be part of something bigger… even when it’s inconvenient. Even when it’s hard. Even when nobody is watching.

That’s the heart of a volunteer.

And they still choose to show up!

Permits 📃 no longer required. However you're still legally required to notify the RFS and your neighbours 24 hours prior to lighting 🔥

Today, 31 March, marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW including Mid Coast and Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA.

While many landholders may no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

For more information on the bush fire danger period and fire permits, visit the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

Last night we were called to a fire 🔥 on Nine Tree Rd in Bago Forest. Neighbouring brigades 🚒from NSW RFS - King Creek Brigade Lake Innes Rural Fire Brigade NSW RFS - Sancrox/Thrumster Brigade and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 492 Wauchope also attended to help us get the upper hand in windy conditions.
The Fire is currently still burning but being monitored by Forestry Corp.
Although we've had recent rain 🌦in the area the forest and surrounding areas are still very dry.
Please stay vigilant as weve had a few suspicious fires 🔥 in the local area the last few weeks.

The Willow Point Road and Aerodrome Road fires south-east of Nabiac on the Mid North Coast are burning on either side of the Wallamba River. Both fires remain at an Advice alert level. Fire activity is increasing across both firegrounds, as firefighters on the ground, supported by aircraft and heavy machinery, work to identify and strengthen containment lines.

Southerly winds is pushing smoke and ash over the areas of Nabiac, Failford and the M1 Pacific Motorway. People in these areas should continue to monitor conditions in case the situation changes.

Make sure you download the Hazards Near Me app and set Watch Zones for the areas you live in or are travelling through. www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/FNM

A message from the Mid Coast District manger;

Due to the elevated fire danger, and following consultation with partner agencies, I have exercised my authority under the Rural Fires Act 1997 to suspend the issuing of fire permits for the following period:

From midnight 20 December 2025 to midnight 2 January 2026

In addition, all fire permits currently in force within the Mid Coast RFS Fire District will be suspended for this period due to forecast weather conditions and the lack of anticipated rainfall.

Important reminder
During the permit suspension period, no fires may be lit in the open without lawful authority. Lighting a fire during this period without approval is a serious offence under the Rural Fires Act 1997 and may result in significant penalties, including fines and/or imprisonment.

Landholders and residents are urged to remain vigilant and comply with these requirements to reduce the risk of fire and help protect life, property, and the environment.
——————————————————————————
If you have any questions or concerns around the suspension of permits, or any other fire related matter please do not hesitate to reach out.
