🏆 A very special congratulations to one of our own — Chris Hynes

The team at Waterloo Bushfire Brigade couldn’t be prouder to see Chris recognised with the Murray Lang Bushfire Excellence Award for 2026- the highest individual honour one can receive as a Bush Fire Service volunteer.

For an incredible 41 years, Chris has put his hand up time and time again to help protect our community. Across eight brigades, he has given countless hours, supported his fellow volunteers and shown the kind of courage and leadership that inspires.

But for those of us at Waterloo, Chris is more than “the boss”. He’s a mate, a mentor, a leader and someone we know we can always count on. He’s the sort of person who gets on with the job, looks out for others and never asks for recognition.

We’re incredibly proud (and lucky!) to stand beside you and call you one of our own.

Thank you, Chris. And Congrats!
From your crew.

A very exciting day for us and our neighbouring brigades in the Shire of Dardanup.

A huge thank you to Sarah from Work Clobber, alongside Bisley Workwear, for organising and donating new jumpers for our members. Sarah went above and beyond to have all the jumpers embroidered with the WA Bushfire logo and brigade names. We initially thought we were going to get 10 per brigade, but she surprised us with 120 in total!

We are all very excited to proudly wear our new jumpers, promote two wonderful companies and stay warm this winter. Thank you from all our members at the Waterloo Bushfire Brigade and for supporting the local community.

Today on First Responders Day, we recognise and thank all the people who answer the call when our communities need help most.

From firefighters, police officers, paramedics, emergency department staff, SES volunteers, rescue crews, communications personnel, and the many other emergency service workers and volunteers who stand ready to respond. This includes everyone involved with our team at Waterloo BFB 🚒🔥

To every first responder, volunteer and career alike: thank you for your courage, compassion, and commitment to keeping our communities safe. Your service makes a difference every single day.

Smoke Alarm Action Day

Today is your reminder to test your smoke alarms — because a working smoke alarm can save lives.
Take a few minutes to:
✔️ Test every smoke alarm in your home
✔️ Replace batteries if needed
✔️ Check expiry dates
✔️ Make sure everyone in the house knows your fire escape plan

Fires can spread quickly, especially at night when you’re asleep. Early warning gives you and your loved ones the best chance to get out safely.

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest celebration of volunteering — a time to recognise the people who generously give their time, skills, and energy to help build stronger, safer, and more connected communities.

At Waterloo Bushfire Brigade, we see that spirit every day in our volunteers. No matter the challenge, our members are always ready to step up, support each other, and look after our community.

We are incredibly proud of our team.

Whether it’s on the fireground, at training, or behind the scenes, every contribution matters. Thank you for the time, heart, and dedication you give to this brigade and the community.

Over the long weekend, our community came together in the best possible way.
Nine dedicated Shire of Dardanup Trainers volunteered their time to deliver Bushfire Safety Awareness and Firefighting Skills courses for ten new members who are beginning their journey as active firefighters.
A huge thank you to our trainers for sharing their knowledge, and a warm welcome to our newest members. Your commitment strengthens our community. 🚒👨‍🚒👩‍🚒
