Today we received an alert from a member of the public about a juvenile bobtail trapped in a filled water bowl left in the bushland. The youngster could not get out by itself. It was cold, wet, lethargic and the rescuer took it to a wildlife carer for attention. Sincerest thanks to the rescuer for both caring for the bobby and for alerting us to this predicament.

Whilst people are meaning well for our wildlife, sometimes actions taken lead to unforseen negative consequences. We have also noticed that people are encouraging the feeding of reptiles. Food left in the bushland results in ants and vermin taking advantage. This is another unwanted consequence.

The City of Joondalup has advised that food is not to be left out for, or fed to, the wildlife we are lucky enough to have live in our bushland.

The reptiles have plenty of natural food in their environment. They don't require food or water to be left out for them. They are well adapted to their environment and receive sufficient water and nourishment from their natural bush diet.

We have removed 3 water bowls today and will continue to do so, to prevent unwanted consequences such as that experienced by the juvenile bobtail.

Please be mindful whilst visiting the bushland that you are in a natural environment and enjoy it as is. If anyone wishes to learn more about the ecology of our bushland, you are welcome to join our Bushcare group. We meet on fortnightly Saturday mornings, 8.30-10.00am.

Thank you everyone. We appreciate your co-operation and look forward to seeing you in the bushland.

The pic, taken today, is a very sleepy bobtail basking in the sun near one of the trails.

We'd like to give a BIG shout out of THANKS to BCF Balcatta and the lovely Charlotte for allowing us to purchase a new cart for our Bushcare group at a really good price. THANKS must also go to the Warwick Scout Group, WA for their very kind donation which allowed us to purchase the cart. It replaces the bushcart we had stolen from us a month or so ago (our second stolen cart in one year). The cart is an essential piece of kit that we use all the time to carry our heavy gear around the 60ha of bushland at Warwick.

We are heartened that there is such goodwill in our community as we strive to value, respect, protect and promote our precious bushland.
