From climbing aboard our trucks to getting hands-on with station jobs, students from Donvale Christian College spent the week experiencing life at Warrandyte CFA as part of their Service Experience Program…and they certainly weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty!

The week included plenty of firefighter action, with the students learning what it takes to be a CFA volunteer, checking out all the gear on our trucks and firing up the hoses.

Then it was time to swap the firefighting gear for gardening gloves! The students rolled up their sleeves and helped with cleaning, gardening and giving the station a bit of TLC.

There was plenty of hard work, a few laughs and hopefully some new appreciation for the work that goes into keeping a station ready to respond.

A massive thank you to Matt from The Tree Fairy Arborist Pty Ltd for generously supplying us with mulch. Your support helped us get stuck into the gardens and is very much appreciated!

Thanks to the students for being such a great crew and for spending the week with us. We hope you enjoyed your time at Warrandyte CFA as much as we enjoyed having you!

A huge milestone for two of our new recruits, with Chris and Tom officially signed off last night to turn out with Warrandyte CFA. The final steps are completing their truck challenge and pumping tests as part of their post-GFF requirements with Warrandyte.

Monday nights can be busy!

Last week, Warrandyte CFA crews responded to four incidents in just two hours, working alongside our Fire Rescue Victoria colleagues across Melbourne’s east.

At 5:52 pm, our pumper and tanker responded to two separate automatic fire sprinkler alarms in East Doncaster, alongside crews from FRV Stations 84 (South Warrandyte), 82 (Eltham), 30 (Doncaster) and 27 (Nunawading).

As crews were wrapping up those incidents at 6:17 pm, our pumper was immediately dispatched to Park Orchards to assist FRV Stations 84 (South Warrandyte), 22 (Ringwood) and 30 (Templestowe) following reports of a kitchen fire. Thankfully, this proved to be a false alarm.

Then, at 6:28 pm, while our pumper was still in Park Orchards and our tanker was returning to station, another call came through for a kitchen fire in East Doncaster. Warrandyte CFA responded alongside FRV Stations 22 (Ringwood) and 27 (Nunawading).

On arrival, crews found a small fire involving an oven and lower drawer, resulting in only minor damage. Thanks to the quick actions of the residents and the rapid response from firefighters, the fire was contained before it could spread further.

A busy reminder that incidents can happen at any time, and that emergency services work together every day to keep our communities safe.

Our GFFs (General Fire Fighter - new recruits) are out and about today conducting their practical assessments.

After today they will become our newest members of Warrandyte CFA.

Another step closer.

Our newest recruits were training last night, consolidating everything they've learned in preparation for their General Firefighter assessments this Sunday.

Months of dedication, hard work and commitment have led to this point. We wish the crew all the very best as they take on this important milestone. Good luck, recruits!
