Please be advised that Licensing Services will operate on modified hours this Friday, 11 September.

𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘 – 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗘 𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗕𝗕𝗘𝗥

The Shire is aware that a quantity of whale blubber has washed ashore approximately 600 metres south of the main beach access area.

DBCA has been notified, and Shire Rangers will continue to monitor the area as the blubber naturally decomposes.

Beach users are advised to avoid swimming in the immediate area until the blubber has fully decomposed.

The beach remains accessible; however, we ask everyone to take care, keep clear of the material and ensure children and pets do not come into contact with it.

The Shire will continue to monitor the situation and provide further advice if required.

Women’s Health Week is a wonderful reminder to take a moment for you — to check in with your health, learn something new, connect with others and make your wellbeing a priority.

The Waroona Community Resource Centre are celebrating Women’s Health Week with a morning tea. Join them on Wednesday 9 September from 10am to 12pm for a morning supporting women, girls and their families with the knowledge, tools and confidence to make informed health decisions and effectively manage health conditions.

It’s a great opportunity to connect with other women in our community, enjoy a cuppa and take some time for yourself.

The Shire of Waroona is seeking community feedback regarding vehicle speeds and road safety along James Road, Hamel.

The Shire is considering submitting an Application for Speed Zone Review to Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) and would like to hear from residents and road users about their experiences and any concerns with the current speed environment.

The Shire is not proposing a specific speed limit. Any future speed zone would be determined by MRWA following its assessment.

🌳 Community Notice – Pathway Closures

The Shire of Waroona advises the community that it is aware of several trees down, impacting pathways along Hill Street and the walkway at Clements Place.

The Shire has installed signage and cones and implemented temporary pathway closures while clean-up works are arranged.

We ask the community to please remain vigilant and exercise caution when in these areas until clean-up works have been completed.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 – 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱

The Shire has received notification from Water Corporation that the installation of the temporary Bailey Bridge structure on Somers Road has been completed, and the road closure and associated detour have been removed, resulting in the re-opening of Somers Road.

Whilst the road has now reopened, the Shire and Water Corporation would like to advise motorists that the temporary bridge structure has resulted in changes to the road environment, including additional signage and line marking and the installation of give-way point at the southern bridge abutment.

Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when approaching and crossing the bridge and to adhere to all signage and line marking in place.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to have their say on the future of Preston Beach.

Following an extensive period of community consultation, the Amended Draft Preston Beach Management Plan has now been released for further public comment.

The amended Plan has been informed by feedback received through:

• the Preston Beach community survey;
• the community workshop held in Preston Beach; and
• submissions received from the Preston Beach Progress Association and Preston Beach Golf Club.
