Warialda, with a population of 1300, is one of the major towns of the Gwydir Shire in north-western NSW. It is situated 602 km north of Sydney and 320 m above sea-level on a tributary creek of the Gwyroads, being 190 km north of Tamworth along the Fossickers Way and 62 km north-west of Inverell via the Gwydir Highway. The town's name is said to mean 'place of wild honey' and presumably derives fro

A message from the Mayor

Over the past few months, Gwydir Shire Council has undertaken an extensive recruitment process for the position of General Manager, conducted in partnership with LGNSW Recruitment.

Today, Council held the final interviews in the Gwydir Shire Council Chambers in Bingara, and I am pleased to announce that Leeah Daley has been appointed as our new permanent General Manager.

On behalf of Council, I would like to warmly welcome Leeah to this important leadership role. Leeah is highly community-minded, lives locally, and is actively involved in a number of community committees and organisations. Her strong connection to our region and commitment to the people of Gwydir Shire make her an excellent fit for this position.

Gwydir Shire has been fortunate to benefit from a long-serving General Manager over the years, providing stability, strong leadership, and a clear strategic direction. This continuity has played a significant role in the success and progress of our Shire, and we look forward to continuing that tradition with Leeah at the helm.

Please join me in congratulating Leeah on her appointment and wishing her every success as she leads our organisation into the future.
