🏙️ CAMP UPDATE – THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES!

The last few days have been jam-packed with adventures, learning and plenty of tired feet!

Day 1: We kicked things off with the long journey to Brisbane. Once we arrived at the YHA, the students settled in before heading out to explore some dinner options and get their first taste of city life.

Day 2: Straight into the world of adventure. The students started the day with the Story Bridge Climb, taking in some incredible views of Brisbane before heading to the Maritime Museum to continue their explorations.

Day 3: We met Byrson Head at Parliament House to kick-start our day. From there, we headed to the Holocaust Museum before finishing the day at Prison Island. And parents… sorry, they wouldn’t let us leave them there!

❤️ Missed the unveiling of the Joy Baker Memorial Plaque? ❤️

The plaque serves as a lasting tribute to Mrs Joy Baker and her incredible 51 years of service to Wandoan State School, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire future generations.

A huge thank you to Wandoan Mobile Welding for constructing the plaque stand and the Bonanza Team for installation. Your contributions have helped create a beautiful and fitting memorial for a very special member of our school community.

Our Year 9/10 Economics students recently welcomed Kath Miles and Lauren Newton to the classroom to share how three local businesses operate and support our small rural community.

Kath and Lauren gave students a valuable real-world look at the Wandoan Post Office, the mail run, and the school bus run. Although these services are closely connected in our community, students discovered that they are actually separate businesses and operate in quite different ways.

The ladies explained how the Post Office works with Australia Post while still operating as a local business. Students learnt about the range of services provided through the Post Office, the importance of customer service in a small town, ordering stock and working with suppliers, and how changes such as online shopping and increased parcel deliveries have affected the way postal services operate.

They also discussed the mail run, which operates as a different business but is run from the Post Office. This gave students an excellent example of how several businesses can share resources and work together while still having different customers, costs, responsibilities and risks.

Kath then spoke about the school bus run and its relationship with Translink, explaining some of the planning and responsibilities involved in providing a reliable transport service. Students were able to connect this with concepts we have been studying, including fuel and maintenance costs, registration, insurance, repairs, safety requirements, record keeping and what happens when unexpected problems arise, or a bus ages out of use.

Our sincere thanks to the ladies for giving their time to speak with our students and for being so open about how their businesses operate. Experiences like this make Economics and Business much more meaningful, allowing students to connect classroom learning with the businesses and people operating right here in our own community.

🤷‍♀️It is hard to believe that we are about to begin Week 10 in Term 3. Where has the term gone??

🏋️‍♀️This week's PBL focus is 'I finish the term off strongly by continuing to make positive choices'. This reminder links in nicely with Mrs Smith's 'Rise to 3 R's' challenge, which will culminate at the end of next term with a super fun colour run and slime day.

🌗Today, our secondary students left on their Brisbane trip. We know that they will have the most amazing time with lots of fun learning activities on offer. A Story Bridge climb, a trek to Tangalooma on Moreton Island, a planetarium visit and a QPAC show are just some of the experiences scheduled for their week away. An iFLY indoor skydiving session is also on the cards for those brave enough.

🌭There will be NO hotdogs this week.

🍰Our Student Council are running a bake sale in Term 4 on Thursday, 15th October. Purchase times will be 11.10am and 3pm (if there are any left). This is a cash only transaction.

🏈We are looking forward to Community Cup touch commencing in Term 4.

☀️Enjoy your holidays. THIS Friday is the final day of term. Monday, 5th October is a public holiday which means school resumes for Term 4 on Tuesday, 6th October.

All the very best to our wonderful P&C for a super successful event tomorrow, which follows the tribute to our beloved teacher Mrs Joy Baker. Join us all from 10.30am.

Tomorrow is the day! As we put the finishing touches on the inaugural Golden Glove Softball Tournament, we're sharing our site map and a few housekeeping rules to help ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable and fun day.

📍 Please familiarise yourself with the site map and respect any out of bounds areas.

⚾ Players participate at their own risk (this includes any on-field humiliation courtesy of teammates, opponents or your own softball skills 😜).

🤝 Players and spectators are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and respectful behaviour at all times. We're here to honour Mrs Joy Baker, support our school and enjoy a great day together.
