5/6 Purple have had a very busy term learning about body systems, the timeline of European settlement in Australia and the crossing of the Blue Mountains. They have been exploring unison and contrast in music and dance and composing their own dances. Students have been learning how to write persuasive arguments about important places which need saving and most recently learning how to identify imagery, symbolism and connotation in poetry, as well as writing some fabulous poems. In mathematics, they have learned about fractions, decimals, additive strategies and problem solving as well as some work on measurement. Students have been proudly working on their one pagers and presenting their project at on Early Australian Settlers. What a big term and we still have two weeks to go!

🌟 Week 9 Whole School Assembly 🌟

Today’s assembly was a wonderful celebration of student achievement and success. Academic Awards, Principal’s Honour Awards, Athletics Carnival Champion and Runner-Up trophies were presented, and the winners of the school’s Write On! Competition were announced. 🏆✍️

A special highlight was the presentation of the school’s very first Platinum Award to Yasmine Scarlett. ⭐

Thank you to 3/4 Green for their engaging class item on sustainability and conservation, and congratulations to 5/6 Gold for being awarded the Wangaroo’s Star Class Award. 🌱🌏

Thank you to all students, parents, carers and community members who attended and helped celebrate these achievements. 💚💛

Western NSW Dance Festival 2026

What a fantastic experience for our Wallerawang Public School dancers at the Western NSW Dance Festival! This vibrant celebration of creativity, talent and dedication brought together students from across Western NSW to showcase their passion for dance in a professional performance setting.

We were incredibly proud to have two groups represent our school:
Our General Dance Group (Kindergarten to Year 6) performed an energetic and entertaining routine to Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.
Our First Nations Dance Group (Year 1 to Year 6) proudly performed to My Island Home, sharing culture, storytelling and connection through dance.

A huge thank you to our families for your ongoing support. Whether you attended one of the performances, helped with transport, or assisted with hair, makeup and costumes, your support helped make this opportunity possible for our students.

Thank you also to Mrs Davidson, Mrs Barnes and Mrs Mobbs for your assistance, encouragement and support throughout rehearsals and performances.

The students should be incredibly proud of the commitment, teamwork and enthusiasm they demonstrated both on and off the stage. They represented our school with pride and created memories that will last a lifetime.

A very proud Dance Coordinator,

Mrs Sheehan

Fun with 2D Shapes!

In Maths, 1/2 White have been exploring how the number of sides and vertices determine the name of a 2D shape. We used the number of sides on each shape to help us practise our doubles and learned that all four-sided shapes are called quadrilaterals.

We also discovered that you can find shapes inside other shapes. Did you know you can make a hexagon using a rhombus, a trapezium, and a triangle? And you can make a square using a hexagon and four triangles!

We used our skills in sliding, turning, and reflecting 2D shapes to create new shapes, patterns, and symmetrical designs.
