Today we would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank our wonderful Palliative Care Champions at Star of the Sea. 💛🧡

Yesterday’s Palliative Care Afternoon Tea was a beautiful opportunity to come together with residents, families and staff during National Palliative Care Week to reflect, learn and share conversations about what matters most.

A heartfelt thank you to our passionate Palliative Care Champions for the time, compassion and dedication they continue to give to improving palliative care within our home. Your commitment helps ensure our residents receive care that is personal, respectful and filled with dignity, comfort and kindness.

We are also incredibly proud of the meaningful projects and displays created throughout the home, including our beautiful memorial wall and National Palliative Care Week displays, which encouraged reflection and important conversations.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the afternoon. 💛

National Palliative Care Week runs from 10–16 May, and tonight Kadina Town Hall will light up Orange to help raise awareness of palliative care.

Despite being a natural part of life, death is still a difficult topic for many. That silence can lead to confusion and misconceptions about what palliative care really means and how it can support people through end-of-life care, dying and grief.

Dementia is now Australia's leading cause of death in older people, and Dr Michael Chapman believes we've been thinking about it the wrong way. Ahead of his National Palliative Care Week special guest lecture at Parliament House next week, he talks about what we're missing, why it matters, and what we can actually do.

As we acknowledge Palliative Care Week, we also honour the legacy of Father Ray Pope, who played a significant role in the growth and development of Star of the Sea and left a lasting legacy of compassion and care.

In his memory, Star of the Sea proudly supports palliative care scholarships for staff education and training, helping ensure compassionate end-of-life care continues for future generations.

We warmly invite families, residents, staff and community members to join us for afternoon tea at 1:30pm on Wednesday 13th May, where our Palliative Care Champion Group will showcase their projects and improvements, alongside a special guest speaker with expertise in palliative care.
Compassion, dignity and comfort remain at the heart of everything we do.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, mother figures, and special women in our Star of The Sea family. 💐

Today we celebrate the love, strength, wisdom and care that mothers bring into the lives of others every single day. From the memories shared by our residents, to the kindness shown by families, staff and volunteers — motherhood is woven through the heart of our community.

Last Wednesday, we were delighted to celebrate Mother’s Day with a special morning tea shared by residents, families, friends and staff.

A special thank you to our Hospitality Manager, Stacey, for organising such a beautiful morning tea and helping make the day so warm and welcoming for everyone. Your hard work and care are truly appreciated. 💖

Today, we also acknowledge those spending Mother’s Day missing their mothers or loved ones, and we hold you gently in our thoughts.

Wishing everyone a beautiful Mother’s Day filled with love, laughter, cherished memories and special moments.

Today, we pause to reflect and honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of all those who have served our country this Anzac Day.

At Star of the Sea, we are proud to share this beautiful and meaningful foyer display, creating a space for reflection for our residents, families, and staff.

A heartfelt thank you to Wayne Johns for crafting the stunning poppy cross, and to Janene Curnow, Colleen Horgan, Pam Elliot, Karen Mellow, and Audrey Hunt for the beautiful knitted and crocheted poppies that bring it to life.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Steve Dunn for the professional painting of the soldiers, and to Michael McMahon for his generosity in reducing the cost of these pieces.

Thank you to our wonderful Auxiliary team for their donation to help bring this display together, and a very special thank you to Gaylia Johns for coordinating it all.

Your generosity and effort have created a truly special tribute.

Lest we forget.
