Today marks the first day of winter and it’s also Smoke Alarm Action Day!

As the weather cools down and heaters, fireplaces, and electric blankets start getting more use, now is the perfect time to check your smoke alarms are working.

✅ Test your smoke alarms
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Make sure every bedroom and hallway is protected
✅ Plan and practice your home fire escape plan

A working smoke alarm can provide the early warning needed to save lives. Stay warm, stay safe, and make fire safety a priority this winter.

INCIDENT ~ MISSING PERSON SEARCH

LOCATION ~ LUDDENHAM AREA.

UPDATE ~ Sadly the body of the man missing has been located. NSW Police will be preparing a report for the coroner.

DETAILS ~ Our firefighters are currently assisting NSW Police Force with the a coordinated search involving Rescue & Bomb Disposal - NSW Police Force, NSW Rural Fire Service - Cumberland/Macarthur District and NSW SES for Jamie aged 48 who has been missing since Thursday 28th May. See post below for more information.

OTHER DETAILS ~ Any residents with property in the area between The Northern Rd and Luddenham Rd, please take the time to check your property and any look at any CCTV footage that may have captured Jamie walking past.

INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS OF WALLACIA AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS:

Smoke from a number of Hazard Reduction burn across Greater Sydney is now starting drift into Wallacia and the surrounding. The smoky conditions are likely to worsen overnight and into the morning.

It is important that people take steps now to reduce the impact of smoke, particularly if you have respiratory concerns;

🔸 Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes
🔸 Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
🔸 Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
🔸 Remove washing from clothes lines
🔸 Ensure pets have a protected area
🔸 Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up, turn headlights on
🔸 Sightseers must keep away from burns for their own safety
🔸 If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice

INCIDENT ~ MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

LOCATION ~ The Northern Rd, Luddenham.

DETAILS ~ Our firefighters are currently working with other emergency services at a motorcycle accident.

OTHER DETAILS ~ All Northbound lanes of  The Northern Road are currently blocked at the intersection of Elizabeth Drive.

UPDATE ~ 11:55pm, The accident has been cleared and all northbound lanes on The Northern Road have now reopened.

INCIDENT ~ MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT and FIRE.

LOCATION ~ The intersection of Carrington Rd and Bowman Rd, Londonderry.

DETAILS ~ This afternoon, our firefighters worked alongside other NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW crews at a multi-vehicle accident, along with all other emergency services.

OTHER DETAILS ~ The incident involved a truck carrying a large LPG tank, which caught fire and spread to nearby grass.

LOCATION ~ Park Rd, Wallacia.

UPDATE ~ 1:50pm Police are remaining on site until the motorcycle is recovered, all other emergency services are leaving the scene.

DETAILS ~ Our firefighters are working with other emergency services at a motorcycle accident.

OTHER DETAILS ~ Park Road remains open to traffic in both directions at a reduced speed limit.

Today is St Florian's Day, also known as International Firefighters' Day. Earlier today, at the NSW Rural Fire Service St Florian's Day awards ceremony, one of our volunteer firefighters Daniel, along with others who were part of the first RFS crew deployed to the 2025 Queensland Flood (Townsville), were recipients of a Commissioner's Certificate of Commendation (Unit) for their tireless efforts and adaptability during the deployment, helping to ensure the safety and wellbeing of local communities.

We congratulate Daniel and everyone else who was recognised at today’s St Florian's Day awards ceremony.

A huge thank you to the team at the Wallacia Hotel for generously allowing Wallacia Rural Fire Brigade to be apart of the ANZAC Day activities.

Your support gave us the opportunity to bring the community together, honour an important tradition, and raise valuable funds to support our brigade and the work we do.

We’re incredibly grateful for your ongoing support of local emergency services and the community.
