Your drone footage is not worth more than our members’ lives

Aerial firefighting at the Katarapko fire was forced to stop after an illegal recreational drone was spotted overhead.

That one drone grounded aircraft, delayed firefighting, and put air crews at serious risk.

This is the third drone incident this month.

Drones can collide with aircraft causing catastrophic consequences.

👉 If you fly, we can’t. Keep drones well away from firegrounds.

Everyone in the shaded red area who has the Alert SA app would have received an emergency warning tone on their phone or device today if they had set a Watch Zone within this area.

When a Red Emergency Warning is issued it seems we will get this audible tone.

Just remember look at the warning to determine if it applies to you.

This tone happened on Saturday for the fire just south of Auburn when CFS issued an emergency warning. If that warning area shape lies within you defined Watch Zone, you would have got the tone. However, it is crucial to look at the shape and see whether your Watch Zone icon (a set of binoculars) lies within the warning area shape. If so, the warning applies to you.

If it didn’t work for you and you have a watch zone set, you might have to delete the app and reinstall it. I wasn’t receiving notifications and doing this re-enabled notifications.

TOTAL FIRE BANS JAN 27 2026

The Riverland has another Extreme day tomorrow. Be sure to stay cool and safe tomorrow with the heat

TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for tomorrow Tuesday 27 January 2026 for the following Fire Ban Districts:

• Eastern Eyre Peninsula - Extreme
• Mid North - Extreme
• Mount Lofty Ranges - Extreme
• Yorke Peninsula - Extreme
• Kangaroo Island - Extreme
• Riverland - Extreme
• Murraylands - Extreme
• Upper South East - Extreme
• Lower South East - Extreme

Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted.
The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow.

The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Fire Danger Ratings
Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire.

What should you do
• If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option.
• In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions.
• Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council.
• Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight.
• Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions

A great reminder for everyone with this heat this week!

Heatstroke happens when the body temperature rises above 40.5 degrees Celsius. Immediate first aid is needed to lower the body temperature as quickly as possible.

To treat heatstroke:
• If you notice symptoms in yourself or others, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
• If the person is unconscious, do not give them aspirin or paracetamol
• move them to a cool area and keep them still
• give them small sips of fluid.

If you can, bring their temperature down by:
• sponging them with cool water
• putting them in a cool shower
• spraying them with cool water from a garden hose
• soaking their clothes with cool water
• placing cool packs around them.
