In recent weeks, Riverina Zone Support have been busy Supporting Firefighters tackling multiple grass and crop fires burning across the Zone.

Roles support members provided are - Communications, Catering, Logistics, Aviation and Drone Support!

🚁 Riverina Zone Aviation Brigade Season Setup 2nd November 🚁

📍 Location: Wagga Airbase (Walsh Drive, Wagga Airport)

As the start of Bush Fire Danger Period for Riverina Zone starts today, Riverina Aviation will be at airbase on 2nd November 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 for our season setup and tidy-up.

Don't want to fight fires? But want to still help? The Support Group roles encompass a variety of non-operational tasks essential to the success of the RFS.

The Riverina Support Group support's the whole Riverina Zone with:

🚁 Air Base Operator and Radio Operator Course 🚁

Riverina Zone Aviation hosted the state Air Base Operator and Aviation Radio Operator course at Wagga Airbase this weekend.

It was great to have a fantastic group of participants attend, learn new skills, and experience the thrill of aviation.

The weather was cold and wet, but they all persevered.

A special thanks to Riverina Zone Communications for the use of their Operational Command Vehicle, and to the instructors who delivered this course—helping build aviation resources across Southern NSW.

Riverina Zone Aviation members assisting in loading Bomber 477 to support the crews on the ground at the downside fire today.

Having this aerial support assist ground crews in knocking the fire so the trucks on the ground can contain it.

HT211 has been pre-deployment based on the upcoming weather and fire danger.

This helicopter has just recently been fitted with an internal water tank with a drop down snorkel the draw from water sources - further enhancing the capabilities to assist crews on the ground.
