My Philosophy
I feel that every child is a unique individual. All children learn in different ways, and teachers, children and parents should work together in order to develop the best rate of joyful learning for each child. My purpose is to crea

te an environment in which children feel welcomed, safe, respected and free to create, imagine and discover. I believe we as teachers can help children through their development by creating an environment that inspires them to learn at a pace which is comfortable, yet challenging. I believe children need a consistent show of affection, care, love and respect in an environment that suits their needs, a place where they can find comforting stimuli for all their senses to learn about the world and their interactions with others. Adults should model behaviour consistently for children to send appropriate messages of what is expected from them. My role as a teacher is to provide activities that enhance the child’s natural curiosity and interest level. It is important to encourage children to participate in a variety of individual and group activities designed to develop language, enhance physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth, skills and attitudes. I believe that play is a very important part of a developmentally appropriate infant and toddler program. Play is a child’s work. It is the young child’s way of reaching out to learn about the world around them. In my program, children have uninterrupted periods of play time in which to enjoy self-chosen activities. With a variety of materials, children are encouraged to work out individual ideas and foster their creativity. It is important for us as parents and teachers to be aware and to respect the potential of children; to provide a caring, trusting and non-competitive environment in which children can flourish as individuals and friends. Families and caregivers should maintain open, honest and consistent communication to best meet the children’s needs and to help children feel comfortable and secure. I would suggest parents communicate their concerns, ask questions and provide feedback whenever possible to help better meet their child needs. I encourage families to share their traditions whenever possible. My goal is to integrate different cultures and help children gain understanding and acceptance, develop love and respect for themselves, others and all things. I believe it is important for children to be connected with their family culture and for us as adults to maintain a connection between home and child care when possible. I strongly consider good nutrition as the bedrock of lifelong health, and this begins in infancy. Healthy eating can stabilize children’s energy, sharpen their minds and even out their moods. I will model healthy eating habits with each meal. Infants and toddlers have a flexible schedule which reflects the child's individual needs. They are given individual attention, including lots of time for talking and interacting. I will provide safe, open spaces for children who are walking and crawling to move freely. I believe infant care should be based on relationship planning -- not lesson planning -- and should emphasize child-directed learning over adult-directed learning. Rather than detailing specific lessons for infant/toddler care teachers to conduct with infants, it is important to assist the infant’s intellectual development through attentive reading of each child's cues. Children including infants and toddlers, go outdoors daily when weather permits and given freedom to play, explore, move and discover under adult supervision. I believe it is crucial to give every child tender, loving care and make each daily routine a learning experience. I, as an adult will always be available to support children who need specific guidance or extra time to make progress in a certain area of development. They are little sponges ready to absorb...........
