Riverina Police District is a diverse and vibrant Command, made up of a number of sectors which run from the Snowy Mountains of Tumut to the golden plains of Temora. It is a nursery for Australian sporting champions with strong AFL, rugby league and rugby union competitions and is the home for the National Art Glass Gallery, extensive gardens, Defence bases Australian Army Kapooka and Forest Hill

R.A.A.F, and Charles Sturt University. The city's shopping centre includes major chains stores through boutique shops and the wide variety and number of cultural and sporting clubs reflects the dept of our community. The Wagga Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre with capacities of 30,000 sheep and 4,000 cattle is one of the State's major centres. The Riverina Police District is broken down into 5 Clusters: Wagga Wagga the head station, Northern Cluster (Temora, Ariah Park and Ardlethan, Junee, Coolamon and Ganmain), Southern Cluster (Cootamundra and Gundagai), Southern Cluster (Tarcutta, Lockhart and The Rock) and our Snowy Valley Cluster (Tumut, Khancoban, Tumbarumba , Talbingo, Adelong and Batlow) comprising numerous Police Stations. Wagga Wagga is 518 km by rail from Sydney and 432 km from Melbourne on the main Southern Line. It is 185.6 m (608 ft) above sea level and situated on the Sturt Highway which joins the Hume Highway 48km to the east. It is the junction of the Sturt Highway and the Trunk road known as the "Olympic Way", which enables travellers by road to proceed to and from Sydney via Cootamundra, Cowra, Bathurst and The Blue Mountains area, instead of travelling via the Hume Highway.

43 charges laid and 11 people arrested during an operation at Wagga Wagga.

Between Thursday 11/6/26 and Saturday 13/6/26 Riverina Police District conducted a high visibility operation with assistance from Aviation Command, Police Transport Command, Region Enforcement Squad, Dog Unit and Traffic & Highway Patrol. The operation focused on community concerns, including anti-social behaviour, trail bikes, shoplifting and others.

13 court notices were issued for shoplifting and 8 were people charged for possession of a prohibited drug. Wagga Wagga CBD was heavily patrolled with one person found in possession of a knife.

A stolen vehicle was recovered and an unregistered trail bike seized after being detected on a public road. The 19 year old rider will face court charged with Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended (2nd+offence), Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (2nd+offence).

A 31 year old man was arrested and charged with Take & Drive Conveyance w/o consent of owner, 2 x Drive motor vehicle during Disqualification period (2nd+offence), 2 x Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed, Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception, Larceny, Goods suspected stolen in/on premises and Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

A 29 year old man was charged with Police Pursuit, Drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner, Use registrable vehicle not displaying authorised number-plates, Class A m/v exceed speed > 45 km/h, Not give particulars to owner of damaged property, Negligent driving and Possess prohibited drug.

A 24 year old female was arrested and charged for Destroy or damage property, Enter enclosed land, Larceny, Drive while licence cancelled (2nd+ offence) and traffic offences.

Appeal for information after 2400 litres of fuel stolen from rural properties – Riverina

Rural crime investigators are appealing for information after several regional properties were targeted in the state’s south earlier this week.

On Tuesday (26 May 2026), police received a report that a large amount of diesel fuel had been stolen from two properties in Gogeldrie, about 48km southeast of Griffith.

Officers attached to the Rural Crime Prevention Team and Murrumbidgee Police District attended and were told 1500 litres of fuel had been stolen from a property on River Road and an additional 900 litres of fuel had been stolen from a truck parked on a property on Brown Road.

Police were further told an additional unknown amount of fuel had been stolen from a tank on the same Brown Road property.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information about these incidents to contact rural crime investigators at Griffith Police Station on 02 6969 4299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

For a fuel theft in progress or for incidents where vehicles are seen trespassing and hanging around on farm fuel storage facilities, call 000. Alternatively, non-urgent reports of suspicious activity regarding fuel theft or images or CCTV that may assist can be reported via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A man will face court over allegedly damaging trees at a public reserve in the state’s south earlier this month.

On Thursday 14 May 2026, officers attached to Riverina Police District were called to Oura Beach Reserve, on Wagga Wagga Street, Oura, following reports of a man cutting trees at the travelling stock reserve.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on scene and issued a Court Attendance Notice charged with damage etc travelling stock reserve without authority.

He is due to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 8 July 2026.

A 14 year old and a 12 year old have been arrested following a pursuit at Wagga Wagga.

On the afternoon of Sunday 17 May 2026 a Ford utility was stolen from a Wagga Wagga address.

At 10:45pm that evening, police observed the stolen utility being driven at high speed on Pearson Street Wagga Wagga. The vehicle failed to stop for police and a pursuit was initiated.

The stolen utility reached speeds of approximately 150 kph before crashing at Ashmont Avenue, Ashmont. Two occupants fled from the scene and were arrested soon after. The 14 year old driver and 12 year old passenger were not injured.

The 14 year old driver has been charged with Take and Drive Conveyance, Police Pursuit – Drive Dangerously, Exceed Speed >45kph and Unlicenced Driver. The driver will appear at Wagga Wagga Children’s Court on 28/7/26. The 12 year old passenger was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
