Lions Park, Tourist Picnic Park - Junction St, Forbes

This is a great little spot to stop to have a break and let the kids run around if you are travelling. We were on our way from Wagga to Dubbo.
The playground area is in great condition, there's an undercover seating area with BBQ, a coffee shop open 7 days, toilets, a lake with water feature to check out, a large grassed area to run around on, and walking tracks. The parking is easy on Junction Street, but there's also a car park off James Street. If you park in the car park, there is a path to the toilets and over to the park/coffee shop/seating.

🛝 Lingari Playground 🛝
Cnr Dupree Bvd & Lingiari Dr, Lloyd

This is a lovely open space, with plenty on offer. It's generally for older toddlers and up. There are baby swings and a smaller slide for younger ones. For the older kids, there's a bigger slide and lots to climb on to get to it, a climbing structure (rock wall, rope, chain ladder), swings, and even a basketball/netball hoop. There's plenty of space for a picnic, playing catch, or general running around. There are shaded tables, a bin, and a tap for water. The shade sail means there is shade over at least part of the play equipment throughout the day. We visited early morning, about half was in shade. There is a path leading from the roadside footpath, on Dupree Bvd, up to the undercover tables, and then down to the play equipment. Parking is easiest on Dupree Bvd, but you can also park on Lingiari Dr. No public toilets, no BBQs.
Play equipment, softfall (bark), and seating are all in great condition.

🌳 The Victory Memorial Gardens, Cnr Baylis & Morrow Streets 🌳

There is a lot to explore here. From water fountains to play equipment. For the adults who are interested, there is a memorial for those who have served. The play equipment is in good condition, with a good amount of soft fall. There's shaded areas for seating and play, a newish BBQ area, plenty of bins, and a drinking water station. There are plenty of grassed areas to play on or have a picnic. There are pathways all the way around, accessible from wherever you choose to park (Baylis St or Morrow St). There are toilets nearby but not in the park. When the library or civic building is open, there are toilets (including parents room) available. There's also toilets across the road at the end of Morrow Street.
As the gardens are situated along Wollundry Lagoon, there are plenty of ducks and other birds. On this visit we saw lots of little ducklings. The downside of this location is its not fenced and is surrounded by busy roads and water, however, the space is big enough to not need to worry too much about little ones running on to the road or into the water.
There are a few places close by to grab a coffee, such as Mates Gully and Melba's.

Conclusion: We visit this playground regularly. It's a great space to explore.

🌳 Livvi's Place, Bolton Park, Morgan Street 🌳

This is our new favourite playground! We hadn't been here before. I was quite impressed. There are so many different things for kids of all ages (toddler and beyond), it's clean, the facilities are great, and it's FULLY enclosed. There's shaded areas for seating and play, 2 BBQs, plenty of bins, accessible toilets, drinking water station, swings, slide, cubby, merry-go-round, trampolines, and grassed areas. It's fully accessible from the car park. There is a path that leads from the carpark to the gate at the back, and the paths that wind through the playground make it easy to push a pram to all areas. The toilets (or the one we used) were clean and well stocked with paper and soap. The soft fall material is well maintained and quite squishy to walk on.
There are a couple of options for parking. On street parking on Morgan Street, or off street parking in the All Day Carpark off Morgan Street next to the Oasis. There's also parking across the road.
Since this playground is situated close to the the Marketplace and the main street, there are plenty of places to grab a coffee on the way.

Conclusion: This was a great spot, one we will visit regularly. It ticks all the boxes.

It's been a while since our last review! It was too hot over summer, then life just happened. Hopefully now I'll get a few more up now. If you have any places you would like a review on, please comment here.

I'll have a review up on Livvi's Place soon

🌳 Collins Park, Fox Street 🌳

This playground in Collins Park has something for all ages. Swings, seesaw, slide and different climbing equipment. The playground is in good condition. The surrounding grounds are well maintained with plenty of large shady grass areas, great for the kids to run around on or for picnics.
The actual play area wasn't in shade at the time we were there (about 4pm) but there is shaded seating, as well as a sheltered BBQ, with a various bins close by. There is a tap and a drinking water fountain next to the playground.
There are public toilets available.
There are plenty of options for street parking. Fox Street, Tompson Street, Thorne Street, or even Forsyth Street.
Easily pram or wheelchair accessible as there are paths leading up to the play area.
Dogs are allowed on a leash.
An added bonus is there's a coffee shop across the road on the corner of Forsyth and Thorne Streets.

Conclusion: This is a great spot for family picnics, with lots or shaded space for kids to play and other facilities.

We didn't review a playground this week as we went to the Christmas event at the Botanic Gardens on Tuesday, but I thought I'd share this....

I keep this soap paper in my car and I always have a bottle of water. When there's nowhere to wash hands after playing, we use this. My 3yo only needs half a sheet for clean hands. It's even enough for mine. It's quite soapy. Wet with water, rub, rinse and you have clean hands. Nothing really beats soap and water to make hands clean, especially when they have dirt on them.

I bought the soap off Amazon. There's 50 sheets in a box. I got 4 for $15

🌳 Cabarita Park, Tarcutta Street 🌳

This was a totally unplanned visit, but it was a great little spot. It is right next to the Wagga Wagga Visitor Information Centre. It's a basic playground with swings and a see-saw. However, my 3yo absolutely loves the "big swing" so she was happy. The equipment is in good condition, but the bark is starting to thin. There's a large, well maintained grass area, great for the kids to run around on.
If you are lucky, you might even see the resident ducks!
There is a shade sail over the playground, as well as shaded seating, BBQs and a bin directly next to the playground. There is another lot of BBQs across the grassed area.
There are public toilets in the Visitor Information Centre.
There are plenty of options for parking. On Tarcutta Street, in the carpark off Tarcutta Street next to the Visitor Information Centre (partly shaded), or the carpark off Cross Street.

Conclusion: This was a great little spot, it was a bonus I managed to get a shaded carpark. It ticks all the boxes for a basic playground.

Gibson St Park, Messenger Ave, Boorooma

This used to be our local park, but we moved and haven't been back to this one for about 18 months. It was still a big hit for my 3yo. We were visiting this playground at about 20 months old and she was just starting to climb up to the slide. If your young ones like to climb, this is a great slide. There's swings for all ages, even adults (I got on the big round one with my daughter, which she loved). There's also a 4 person see-saw and a flying fox for the older kids.
The equipment is in reasonable condition, some graffiti on the top of the slide.
The bark is in good condition.
The play area is not shaded in the afternoon, but is in the morning, with seating around the playground.
The is a bin up the hill a bit near the footpath.
There's a large grassed area, great for kicking a ball or playing fetch with the dog. It's all unfenced though. And not currently mowed.
No toilets.
Street parking on Messenger Ave or Gibson Street.
I have pushed a pram along the footpath and then down the grassed hill before, but it's not ideal.
Conclusion: apart from the grass surrounding the playground being a bit long, my daughter really enjoyed this one, especially the big swing. It's a great spot in the mornings when it's shaded.

Gissing Oval, Blamey Street, Turvey Park

This is a basic playground right next to Gissing Oval on the corner of Blamey Street and Bluett Crescent, opposite Halloran Street. It's equipment is older and includes a big old school metal slide. It was definitely the highlight! Even though it is older, it's all in pretty good condition. The swing set appears to be newer. My 3yo had a great time, really loved the big slide and 4-way see-saw. There are some monkey bars but they are a bit too big for a toddler.
It was an overcast day, but as there are several big trees around, there would be shade available, but it was hard to tell if the playground would be in shade all day.
There was one bench seat/table that would be in shade most of the day.
The bark was thin in a few patches but there was also rubber matting under the swings and at the bottom of the slide.
There's a grassed area around the playground, but it's not fenced.
There was a red wheelie bin pushed up against the hedge but it looked like it was just sitting there, not a permanent fixture. The ground in the playground and surrounding was rubbish free and appeared to be well maintained.
No toilets.
Street parking on Blamey Street or Bluett Crescent.
Conclusion: small older playground suitable from toddler and up. Perhaps only when shaded or on cooler/overcast days as the metal slide would be a bit hot on little bottoms.

Lloyd Open Space, Barton Ave

At first glance this looks like an interesting playground. But once we arrived, it was pretty clear it's more for older kids, or kids that have no fear and love to climb. My 3yo loved the swings, but wasn't too keen on the other things. She had a go at climbing but it's "wobbly"and needed me to be near or help her.
A lot of the rubber on the chains has cracked and has been patched up with duct tape.
The bark was in good condition.
The mozzies were very friendly, so bring your repellent.
There's seating for parents/carers but there is no shade at all.
There is a grassed area around the playground but unfenced.
No toilets.
No bins.
Street parking on Barton Ave.
Conclusion: better for older kids and on cooler or overcast days. I imagine the black rubber would be hot to touch and climb on a hot and sunny day.

🙂

I have started this page because I wanted a new place to go with my daughter but didn't know where to start. We have soooo many playgrounds in Wagga. So every Tuesday, weather permitting, we will be exploring a new playground and reviewing it here 🙂

If you want to see a certain playground featured or certain aspects I haven't mentioned, please leave a comment.
