West Daly Regional Council was pleased to attend the Local Government Association of NT (LGANT) Procurement Symposium 2026 in Darwin, connecting with local government professionals from across the Northern Territory to share knowledge and strengthen procurement practices.

A highlight of the day was our A/Governance Manager, Shoshana Deschamps, who was invited as a guest presenter to share West Daly’s experience through a Local Buy case study, providing practical insights into procurement in the context of a remote regional council.

Procurement plays an important role in effective service delivery, ensuring public funds are used fairly and transparently while creating genuine opportunities for local communities.

The symposium was a valuable opportunity to learn, exchange ideas and connect with colleagues across the sector.

A big thank you to the LGANT team for bringing the sector together and creating space for these important conversations!👏

On the Road and Ready to Work! 🚛

Council’s new truck and trailer has officially been put to work, completing its first equipment transport with the grader making its way to Peppimenarti!

This important addition to Council’s fleet strengthens our ability to move heavy machinery between communities and support civil works across the West Daly region.

With vast distances to cover, having the right equipment available helps our teams respond to works where they are needed and keep essential infrastructure projects moving.

A great first run for an important addition to Council’s fleet! 👏

West Daly Regional Council is pleased to welcome a new 20–24 tonne Excavator to its fleet, strengthening Council’s capacity to support waste management and recovery activities across the region.

The new excavator will support essential works at the Wadeye Waste Facility, as well as recovery activities in Palumpa and surrounding areas, providing Council with greater capacity to deliver important works across our communities.

Council extends its sincere appreciation to the Hon Steven Edgington MLA, Minister for the Department of Housing, Local Government and Community Development for their valued support in making this important addition possible.

We look forward to putting this new equipment to work across the West Daly region 👏

West Daly Regional Council is incredibly proud to celebrate Tim Hema on receiving formal recognition and thanks from Government House of the Northern Territory, for his outstanding contribution during the recent flooding events across the Territory.

Tim's recognition highlights the qualities that make public service so valuable - compassion, resilience and a genuine commitment to helping others. It also speaks to the dedication demonstrated by our staff daily, often in demanding circumstances, to support the communities we proudly serve.

Working together for healthier pets and stronger communities!

West Daly Regional Council was pleased to partner with AMRRIC - Animal Management in Rural & Remote Indigenous Communities to deliver essential veterinary services across the West Daly region, including communities impacted by this year's significant flooding events.

Over the last few weeks, the AMRRIC team were in the West Daly region to deliver a veterinary surgical program. The program visited Wadeye, Palumpa, and Peppimenarti, where the team surgically desexed 145 cats and dogs, administered approximately 470 anti-parasitic treatments, and supported local pet owners with animal health services.

But this wasn't just about the numbers. AMRRIC's work is built on the understanding that animal health, human health and the health of Country are all connected. When pets are healthier, communities are healthier. Safer. Stronger

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated AMRRIC veterinarians and volunteers for their commitment, expertise and compassion. And to everyone across the West Daly who welcomed them in, helped coordinate, and showed up for their animals, thank you.

Together, we are supporting the health and wellbeing of our animals and communities!

"50 Years of Deadly" – our West Daly community is celebrating with pride.

What a fantastic start to NAIDOC across the West Daly Region! From Wadeye to Peppimenarti and Nganmarriyanga, we've come together to mark a powerful milestone – five decades of NAIDOC as a national movement.

This year's theme, 50 Years of Deadly, is more than a celebration, it's a tribute to the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up. “50 Years of Deadly” speaks to the strength, resilience and achievements of our people

But the celebrations aren't over yet!

The next generation of footy stars are ready to shine at our upcoming NAIDOC AFL Carnival - there’s plenty more to come as we honour where we've come from and look ahead to the future ✨

A huge thank you to everyone who joined West Daly Regional Council for our Community BBQ. It was wonderful to come together to share culture, connection and community.

This National NAIDOC activity is funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency

Stay tuned - the deadly energy continues!
