🚨 NEW FIREGROUND DRONE CONTROL PROGRAM 🚨

To help keep our aircraft and firefighters safe, the South Australian Country Fire Service has today launched the latest weapon in its aerial firefighting arsenal — the DroneHawk™ Interception Unit. 🦅

Working alongside our Black Hawk helicopters, specially trained hawks will now patrol firegrounds across South Australia to intercept recreational drones flying illegally above incidents.

Equipped with advanced talon-guidance technology and exceptional aerial agility, DroneHawks can safely remove drones from the airspace before they interfere with firebombing aircraft and emergency operations.

Remember: If you fly, we can’t.

Please keep drones well away from firegrounds so our crews and aircraft can do their job safely.

🔥Total Fire Ban Declared - Tuesday 31st March🔥

Despite the hottest parts of summer behind us, we cannot become complacent. Ensure your bushfire action plans are in place and ready to be implemented if the need arises.

TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for Tuesday 31 March 2026 in the following Fire Ban Districts:

Mount Lofty Ranges - Extreme

Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted.

The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow.

The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Fire Danger Ratings
Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire.

What should you do
If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option.

In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight.

Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions

đźš’ Monday Night Training đźš’

The wet weather this week dampened our plans of an RCR training session… so we improvised. The team was split in two, with the first activity consisting of learning about area familiarisation and map reading.

The second activity… playing Jenga!

Jenga was set up using wheel chocks and the crew needed to pick up and place pieces using the RCR spreaders. Whilst this was fun, it was also a practical way to teach stability and concentration while using the tools, a vital skill needed when at a potentially life threatening incident.

🔥🚒 Multi-Agency Training🔥🚒

On the 23rd of February Virginia CFS hosted a multi agency Road Crash Rescue simulation with SAAS, SAPOL and St John’s. Casualties had make up indicating injuries that were done by St John’s.

This scenario was based around a 2 Car motor vehicle accident that involved powerlines and multiple casualties. Each agency triaged the emergency and proceeded with resolving it in a timely manner.

These training scenarios are extremely critical to practise as they are as close as you can get to a real life call out.

We would like to thank all agencies involved and we certainly will be doing it again in the near future!

🔥 BUSHFIRE INFORMATION SESSION 🔥

The fire danger season so far has seen several fires in our response area including the dangerous Riverlea fire on the 22nd January. For the community, this fire was a wake up call and reminder that fires can happen anywhere and at anytime. The fire danger season is far from over!!

Some questions to ask yourself :

Do you know what to do in the event of a bushfire in our community?

Do you know how to prepare your home for bushfire season?

Do you have your 5 minute bushfire action plan in place?

If you have answered NO to any of these questions… these, plus many more will be answered in our bushfire information session at Riverlea Park.

Where: Riverlea Sales and Discovery Centre, Bonnin Cres, Riverlea Park.

Date: Wednesday 18th February

Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm

The Virginia CFS crew and fire truck will be on site from 6:00pm - 6:30pm prior to the session if you have any brigade specific questions or want to have a look at the truck!

🔥🚒 Deep Creek - February 2026🔥🚒

As with many other brigades across the State, several voluneers from Virginia went down to help with the Deep Creek Fires.

On every post about these fires, and every other incident that is publicised, there are always plenty of “Thank You” and “Hero” comments.

We do not see ourselves as Heroes… we are simply ordinary people doing extraordinary things to help our community.

Deep Creek was no exception. When the call came out our volunteers put their lives on hold, missing out on work commitments and time with their families. They travelled 100km+ to work along side people they rarely spend time with and in some cases had never met…. All to put out fires that in no way affected their lives back in Virginia.

Why?? Because that’s what the CFS Family does!

Thank you to all of our members as well as their families for stepping up time and time again 🔥🚒

Incident Update - Penfield Fire The SA Country Fire Service is currently responding to a stump fire near Penfield in the Northern Adelaide Plains, of South Australia. Firefighters on 11 trucks have halted spread of this fire, saving glasshouses located on the property. Crews remain on scene working with support from heavy machinery to extinguish piles of wood stumps and vegetation. Due to the nature of burning stumps and vegetation, smoke may continue to be seen over the area around Heaslip Road and Lovey Road into this evening. To ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and Fire Investigators will attend the scene.
