The recruitment process for a new Chief Executive Officer has commenced.

Council has engaged executive recruitment specialists Morton Phillips to undertake the search for a high-calibre candidate to lead the Council. The process is being overseen by a CEO Selection Panel to ensure a robust recruitment process.

The Selection Panel includes Mayor Moira Jenkins and Council Members Cr Brayden Mann, Cr Angela Schiller, Cr David Kemp and Cr Michael Quinton, along with independent representative Michael Richardson, Chair of Council’s Audit and Risk Committee.

Advertising for the position commenced on Friday, 12 June.

Council is committed to appointing a CEO who will provide strategic leadership, support Council’s future direction and deliver positive outcomes for the Victor Harbor community.

So, what’s included in our draft 2026/27 budget?

Key initiatives include:

🗺️ continuing strategic growth planning
🧑‍💻 corporate systems optimisation
🛣️ the upgrade of Whalers Road
🤝 transition of the Encounter Community Centre to Council management
🎥 lighting and AV upgrades for the Town Hall and Cinema
🧑‍💼 ongoing partnership with Business Victor Harbor
🌱 establishment of a community garden and nursery
🌊 Inman River coastal and flood protection works
🚶 delivery of a $520,000 footpath program
🚌 completion of an integrated transport study
🗳️ facilitation of the 2026 Council elections

Planning will also continue for the Regional Community, Sport and Recreation Precinct project, with Council working towards finalising the agreement for lease and getting the project shovel ready.

Together with Biodiversity Victor Harbor, we're hosting a Community Planting Festival. All are welcome as we work together to revegetate one of the region’s most significant reserves.

We’re asking for your feedback 📢

Our draft 2026/27 Annual Business Plan describes how Council will allocate its budget and what services, programs and projects it intends to undertake in the coming financial year.

It’s a future-focused budget designed to put Council in a strong position to manage the growth ahead, while continuing to invest in the services, infrastructure and community assets that help Victor Harbor thrive.

The proposed budget includes $13.9 million in net capital expenditure, and a $42.8 million operating budget with a forecast deficit of $1.9 million.

The draft budget also proposes an average rates increase of 6.4%, made up of 4.9% CPI plus a 1.5% financial sustainability index.

The long weekend is nearly here, and there's plenty happening across Victor Harbor.

🐳 WHAT'S ON?
The Winter Whale Fest will be in full swing plus a new major event, the Victor Harbor Valhalla Festival, is coming to town. Follow Visit Victor Harbor or browse www.visitvictorharbor.com for inspiration on things to do.

🚗 ROAD CLOSURES
Temporary road closures and parking controls will be in place nearby Muwerang-Kent Reserve to facilitate the Valhalla Festival. Please allow extra time if travelling through the area. Visit www.victor.sa.gov.au/roadclosures for further details.

🏦 COUNCIL OFFICE AND LIBRARY
The City of Victor Harbor and Victor Harbor Library will be closed on Monday 8 June 2026 for the King's Birthday public holiday. For any urgent matters during the closure, please contact 8551 0500. We will re-open as usual on Tuesday.

♻️ WASTE COLLECTION
Kerbside collection will occur as usual on the public holiday, however Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority depots will be closed. Learn more at www.frwa.com.au

This week has been all about the strong winds, high tides and serious downpours! ☔🌊

This image shows erosion caused by inclement weather at Franklin Parade.

Our crew has been undertaking emergency works yesterday afternoon and this morning to stabilise the dune embankment as much as possible ahead of today's high tide.

We will continue to monitor the situation.

Please take care in the area and do not enter any zones with temporary fencing.
