Smoke alarms, unlike wine, do not age well over time.

Did you know that most smoke alarms have a use-by date? Some modern smoke alarms have a life-span of up to ten years and may not have a battery to change, making it easy to forget how long since they’ve been installed.

Remember to regularly clean and test your alarms, and check the use-by date to help keep track of their age.

As we move into the colder months, fire agencies often see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm. With temperatures dropping and possible snow forecast across parts of the state in the coming days, it’s important you know how to stay safe.

Remember, you won’t smell smoke while you’re asleep, so make sure your bleeping smoke alarms are working. A working smoke alarm can save your life and give you and your family valuable time to escape a burning home.

Guess who is back!!! Rainfall! (And me... but thats another story :P )

Alright so this week for some we can expect some rainfall BUT there are caveats. Pretty much all of it will be coastal/offshore, and Southeast QLD will be very lucky to pick up double digits before the weekend. A bit of a weak trough develops offshore from Northern NSW, allowing a strengthening southerly flow to sweep northward along the coast.

Areas between Taree and Tweed heads can expect some on and off shower activity starting later today but picking up on Wednesday/Thursday as some instability develops (instability or CAPE in this context can allow for heavier precipitation), with daily falls between 1-10mm and 5 day falls no more than 30mm expected. Unfortunately, inland areas (even those just slightly inland like Grafton) will see very little rainfall.

For Southeastern Queensland the picture is even drier, only a couple of showers (up to 10mm) is forecast around the Gold Coast, outer Islands and Sunshine Coastlines, easing off at Fraser Island, with metro Brisbane expecting marginal accumulations (0-5mm) and inland areas like Ipswich likely to see nothing (
