Possums love the night
They love it when it’s quiet
Just hangin’ with the crickets
Before the daily riot
They love time with the glowing moon
Under stars that glisten
Nocturnal secrets only known
By those who watch and listen
When the daylight does appear
And with it all the noise
They find a place to go to sleep
And dream of nighttime joys.

Feeding Black Swans and other waterbirds might seem harmless… but it can cause serious long-term damage 🦢

Bread is low in nutrients and fills birds up quickly, meaning they miss out on the natural foods they need to grow and stay healthy.

In young birds, this can lead to a condition known as angel wing, where the wing develops abnormally and sticks out instead of folding against the body. In severe cases, this can prevent them from flying for life.

The best way to protect them is to let them forage naturally.

Help protect local wildlife by spreading the word 💚

Possums are reliant on a highly fibrous leaf diet, together with flowers and insects.

Surplus food offered to possums in the form of fruit and vegetables should always be of the same freshness that you would eat yourself. If something is rotting and you don’t want to touch it, you don’t give it to a possum. It will make his guts unwell the same as it will yours but you don’t have to leap up trees to survive. You can just go and lay down with some Panadol.

They also need a variety of food, not just one thing; no one stays healthy just eating one particular food. Or two.

Possums should be allowed space in their stomachs to forage the leaf that they need, supporting their independence. A Possum shouldn’t rely on you for his survival.
……………..
Post-note needed here. Apparently.
If a possum is turning his nose up at the food you are offering, he is not in need of it, which is great! Surplus food should be to help a hungry possum not make it a substitute for his natural plant-life diet. And too much fruit is not good. Please think of the possum’s health.

THE HUMMINGBIRD TONGUE: BUILT FOR A PURPOSE

When most people see a hummingbird, they see a tiny jewel in the air. But underneath that beauty is a creature fighting a constant battle for survival. A hummingbird burns fuel faster than any other bird on earth. Its heart can race past one thousand beats per minute. Its wings beat so rapidly that simply hovering costs more energy than a human sprinting full speed. To survive, it must drink nectar almost nonstop. And that nectar is hidden deep inside flowers, far beyond the reach of its beak.

This is why the tongue matters so much. The hummingbird tongue is not a straw. It is not a sponge. When scientists slowed the motion with high speed cameras, they discovered a split tongue that acts like a spring loaded pump. The two tubes flatten and expand, collecting nectar with precision timing. But here is the part that makes the design even more incredible. The tongue is so long that it cannot fit inside the beak alone. So God designed it to coil back behind the skull and wrap around the back of the head in a perfect loop. It fits like a tailor made piece of engineering. No wasted space. No random arrangement. No loose ends. It is storage built into the body.

This is intentional creation. A tongue that must be long, must be flexible, must be spring loaded, and must have a place to store itself. Every part has to be fully formed and fully functional from day one or the bird dies. That is not evolution. That is purpose. That is design. That is wisdom. Psalm 104:24 says it plainly. O Lord, how many are Your works. In wisdom You have made them all.
