If you’re flying a drone near a bushfire, that means our aircraft can’t.

Our crews often need to fly lower than the usual, which means they may be grounded if drones are operating in the area.

We know fires can look impressive from above, but please keep the skies clear so our aerial firefighting units can do what they do best.

AFAC News has released its bushfire outlook for spring and the months ahead paint a mixed picture for Queensland across our higher risk bushfire period.
While unseasonal rain experienced across many parts of the state has reduced bushfire risk in some areas, there are still sections of South East Queensland and the southern interior where soil moisture remains low.
This, paired with above average temperatures forecast areas south of the Tropic of Capricorn, may lead to increased fuel availability and fire danger.
No matter where you live in Queensland it’s important not to be complacent.
Remain aware of conditions in your area and ensure you have a Bushfire Survival Plan ahead of time.

The High Risk Bushfire Period is now upon South East Queensland. Even when local weather conditions don't appear favourable for fire, bushfire risk remains. Conditions can change rapidly, so residents are encouraged to stay prepared.

Take the opportunity now to prepare your property and your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Prepare your property:
• Clear gutters
• Trim trees and branches
• Mow lawns
• Remove dry leaves and garden debris

Prepare your Bushfire Survival Plan:
• Decide when you will leave
• Pack an evacuation kit
• List emergency contacts
• Plan where you will go

FIRE PERMIT SUSPENSION – PRIVATE & STAKEHOLDER PERMITS 🔥

Please be advised that all fire permits will be suspended from 6:00pm Thursday, 13 August 2026 until 4:00pm Sunday, 16 August 2026.

This temporary suspension is necessary to maintain clear airspace during the Pacific Airshow. Smoke may reduce visibility and impact aviation safety. As a result, all permitted burns must cease for the duration of the suspension.

What permit holders need to know:

• No burns are to be conducted under a fire permit during the suspension period.

• Any burns planned during this timeframe must be postponed until after the suspension has ended.

• Permit holders should ensure any existing burns are appropriately managed prior to the suspension commencing.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping maintain a safe environment for aviation operations and the wider community.
