🐸 is here again, and I’m celebrating with a new close-up of one of my favourite “pet” frogs — meet Tully!

This striking little frog now goes by the updated scientific name Saganura burrowsae. Native only to Tasmania, Tully belongs to a truly ancient lineage — this remarkable species has been around for over 27 million years!

The recent reclassification into its own unique genus reflects just how rare and special this frog really is. A living relic of Tasmania’s natural history, and a perfect ambassador for our island’s endemic wildlife.

The 2024 Takayna Bioblitz kicked off today and thank goodness the weather was kind! Tomorrow is another day! The Bioblitz is not only for data collection, it’s primarily to educate and inform. The Takayna Bioblitz is in its 10th year and the commemorative t-shirt design features our beautiful endemic spider orchid, Caladenia dienema.

Only a handful of orchid species spotted in today’s surveys: Chiloglottis cornuta, Caladenia cracens, Caladenia transitoria, Thelymitra rubra & Pterostylis scabrida.
