Marine Rescue Ulladulla

Marine Rescue Ulladulla Volunteers Saving Lives On The Water Marine Rescue Ulladulla operates as a unit within the Illawarra Region for Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW is our State’s official volunteer marine rescue service, committed to our mission of saving lives on the water. Volunteers are recognised for their marine skills, experience and commitment to saving lives on the water. This team of boating safety advocates works together, both on and off the water, to provide boaters with the assistance, advice and vital rescue services to help t

hem stay safe on the water. With more than 3,000 volunteers in 45 strategically-located units watching over the State’s most popular boating, fishing and cruising regions, there’s a job for almost everyone at their local MRNSW unit. Our rescue vessel crews turn out in all weather and conditions to respond to emergencies and other incidents. A day’s duties might include a Search and Rescue mission for people overboard, towing a disabled vessel back to port or transporting medical teams or firefighters to isolated and inaccessible locations. Our crews also provide operational support for major activities such as the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, New Year’s Eve fireworks and Australia Day, helping keep everyone safe to enjoy the event. Our radio operators monitor the airwaves around-the-clock for boaters in need of rescue or less urgent assistance. They’re a source of local knowledge and advice on local waterways and conditions, broadcast regular weather updates and are ready to help boaters check their marine radios are in good operating order. Our radio safety net includes the State’s only Log On and Log Off service for recreational boaters. Of course, every front line team needs a support crew and we’re no different, with our members also taking on the important unit training, fundraising, maintenance, catering and other administrative roles needed to maintain operational standards and readiness. MRNSW is a Registered Training Organisation and our volunteers are professionally trained to strict national standards for their roles. They can enrol in a range of training courses to expand their skills and knowledge and help them take on new and challenging roles in their unit, including radio operation, navigation, seamanship, meteorology and first aid. In recognition of their commitment, our volunteers are eligible for a range of MRNSW and national awards and medals. Specially struck Commissioner’s Medals are presented to recognise conspicuous acts of valour and courage. MORE INFORMATION

Au revoir Gabrielle! After over 15 years of service with Marine Rescue, Gabrielle has done her last shift and will be relocating to Victoria.

What started as a chance meeting with skipper Jeff Peterson whilst both volunteering on a steering committee to host the Dutch replica ship “Duyfken” in Ulladulla harbour in 2006, has led to a rewarding journey as Radio Operator, Invigilator and Membership Officer - also serving as Deputy Unit Commander between 2018 - 2020. Thanks for your service Gabrielle and wishing you all the best for the next chapter! 🙏
