Well, it’s official – I’m out of the count.

Thank you to everyone who gave me your vote. I felt so honoured that you believed in me to represent you. While this wasn’t the right time for me, that’s absolutely okay.

I’ve already refocused on some really important work that’s coming up, work I’m truly passionate about and that I hope will make a real difference in our community. I also absolutely love my role on council, and there’s still so much more to be done there.

To my fellow candidates who have been elected to Parliament - congratulations!! I trust you’ll represent us well. Here’s to a bright future for Tassie, and please always remember the real lives behind every decision you make 💙

Just incase anyone is wondering what is happening!

What’s happening with the vote count? Here’s what you need to know.

The first preference count is nearly complete and we’re now moving into the final stage to determine who’s elected in each division.

What’s already been done?
Votes cast in person were counted on Saturday night and wrapped up by Sunday afternoon. Nearly 9,000 telephone votes were counted on Monday. Around 17,500 out-of-division votes and over 26,000 postal votes were added by Thursday. Rechecks have been happening at key points across the week.

What happens next?
From Saturday, the next big step begins — bringing together all ballot papers for each candidate, regardless of where or how they were cast, ready for the Hare-Clark count (that’s the system we use to distribute preferences).

Why is this important?
The Hare-Clark system doesn’t just count first preferences, it looks at how voters ranked candidates. These rankings are used to help fill the remaining seats in each division. This process will start on Tuesday.

Why the wait?
We can’t start distributing preferences until the final postal votes are in, and electoral rules allow until 10 am Tuesday for this to happen. Once that deadline passes, we begin the methodical process of distributing preferences to fill all seven seats in each division.

Want to follow along?
This week, we’ve been updating first preference progress at tec.tas.gov.au/results. From Tuesday, check back several times a day as preference distributions unfold and candidates are elected.

Just reflecting on the past few weeks - and now that what feels like jet lag is finally wearing off, I want to acknowledge and recognise all the candidates who put their hand up in this election.

It’s not easy. It comes with a lot of personal sacrifice and uncertainty. Many of us, myself included, take leave from our usual work, self-fund campaigns, commit long hours, and spend time away from our families. It’s a big ask and I know none of us took it lightly.

What I also know is that regardless of our political differences, we all put ourselves forward for the same reason: to help give Tasmania the brightest future possible. We may not always agree on the “how”, but we care deeply about the outcome.

As we wait for the final preferences to roll in over the coming week, I’m incredibly proud that my campaign has helped secure a commitment to fund the Warrawee Women’s Shelter, a project that will go ahead under a re-elected Liberal Government, with or without me. That’s a personal win, and one I’ll always be proud of.

No matter the result, I will continue to serve and advocate for our community, both in my role on council and in everyday life.

We really do live in the best place on earth. 🌏💙

Just cast my vote in this wild weather!
1-7 Liberal. Let’s get the job done 💙
