I received a call from a member of the public some months back about a female kangaroo who had been startled and tried to jump pool fencing but sadly became badly entangled. She was shot and her body was removed from the fence and left on the side of the road with a tarp over her.
The person who called said they wondered if I should do a pouch check. I left immediately and there, tucked away in her mumma’s pouch, was baby Charlotte.
She had wounds from what she and her mum had endured, and my heart broke as I pulled her warm body from her mum, knowing she must have been so scared after hearing the gunshot. Her mum was clearly gone but I told her I would look after her baby as best I could.
Charlotte was lucky to be placed with a skilled carer who could tend to her wounds and she is recovering well and doing excellently.
If it wasn’t for the person with a big heart making the 1minute call to us, she never would have had a chance.

Meet Charlotte, the little girl from under the tarp. 💔

Hi All, There is an injured Tawny Frogmouth in Boonooroo, it is contained but we need someone who can collect it and send photos of the extent of its injuries to know what help it needs ..
I can’t get there - I was wondering if anyone would be able to help? [posted Sunday 8:57pm]

An update on “Jack” our Boonooroo rescue from yesterday - thank you Kristie for your call. Jack had a restless night pining for mum but his carer gave him round the clock care and this morning he has had a big feed and is doing really well.
One life saved, well done team!

If anyone has a dollar or two to spare it would help so much. I am a huge ambassador for Dhil’um-bar Sanctuary and the work they do, without them many lives would be lost. Please please donate if you can 💙

Hi Locals, You will notice deceased wildlife on the side of the road are marked with bright spray paint. There are several reasons we do this. Primarily I use this as a way to let locals and other rescuers know that this one has been checked to make sure that the animal isn’t lying next to the road still alive, to indicate I have conducted a safe pouch check and also to prevent the co**se being mutilated for commercial reasons like taking parts to make a back-scratcher or testicles for a coin purse (vomit). The paint will not deter the natural process of other wildlife feeding on the co**se or for locals to use the co**se to feed their own carnivorous animals. Have a great day, Kel
