The theme of this year's National Volunteer Week is "Your Year to Volunteer" and we couldn't agree more so we want to keep sharing reasons why our members volunteers!

Today we're introducing you to Michael 👨‍🚒

Michael has been volunteering with Qld Rural Fire for approximately 10 years after initially starting with another emergency service organisation and wanting to continue helping the community - it seems volunteering is 'in his blood'! His most memorable experience was his 2020 NSW deployment when his strike team was out on patrol and a huge rain cell passed over the area ⛈️- flooding became a greater risk than fires!

Michael's best and worst experiences with RFS are linked - he loves that every callout is different, in dynamic and changing environments, requiring you to be alert and 'keeping your head on a swivel' but that comes from being ready to respond at any time, including 1am in the morning 'because someone did an oopsie' 😆

In between his work as a security guard (and previously study) Michael has assisted the brigade as a firefighter, Officer and training assistant and we're grateful for all the time he's devoted to us as a volunteer! 👏

Michael's advice to anyone thinking of volunteering is "Do it! You will find the skills and experiences you get will be useful to you far beyond rural fire. Always put your hand up, the worst they can say is no."

Say hello to Shaun 'the very best' (he's not only good looking, he's modest as well 😉)

This ❤️ National Volunteers Week ❤️, we want to introduce you to more of our wonderful volunteers who make up your local brigade.

Sean joined our brigade more than three years ago while in a 'lull' with his work and wanting to find a way to meet new people and serve the community. And we're glad he chose us to scratch that itch!

When he's not volunteering as a Firefighter and our Secretary, or working (full time), Shaun spends time with his 2 kids (lots of time at sports), powerlifts competitively, or helps organise fitness training for his fellow volunteers.
Sean loves the people he's surrounded with while volunteering and says that he gets to go out on the fireground or into the community with some of greatest people on offer. "The knowledge and support these people share with me truly makes me feel like they are just my family."

We love you too Sean 💛 and are grateful for all you do for our brigade and the community!

To all the mums in yellow, or the mothers who support and encourage those in yellow, who are there for us and our community whenever we need them....Their care, strength and generosity make an impact every single day. Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers and mother figures — you mean the world to us.

Today we celebrate International Firefighters' Day 👨‍🚒
The date chosen for International Firefighters’ Day was linked to the feast day of St Florian (the patron saint of all firefighters).
On this day, we honour the 60 firefighters from Queensland Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service Queensland who, in the line of duty, paid the ultimate sacrifice.

After 24 years as a volunteer with Rupertswood Rural Fire Brigade, we had to say farewell to Evan last night as embarks on a new adventure. Thank you Evan for all you've done for us and your community. We're going to miss you but we wish you all the best for this next exciting chapter of your life. 💛

Rupertswood and Mt Margaret residents - our brigade will be doing some training in the local area tonight. There will be no fires but you may see a vehicle or two parked up, with people looking at maps and/or out at bush/grassland areas, so if you see them, please don't be concerned.
All members participating in the training will be in, or with someone who is wearing Rural Fire uniform (yellow or navy blue).

What a great training opportunity!
Thank you Saunders Beach RFB for the opportunity to participate in your 'cool burn', 🔥 which allowed members to practice basic firefighting and Crew Leading skills. 🚒
Congratulations also to Christine and Rhiannon who were presented with their Firefighter epaulettes 👩‍🚒 after recently completing Firefighter Minimum Skills training 👏

Today, as the sun rises on Anzac Day, we pause to honour those who served before us. The ANZAC spirit—courage, sacrifice, endurance, and mateship—runs deep through Australia’s history, and it continues to guide the work we do every day.

We remember the men and women who gave everything, and we acknowledge those who continue to serve. Lest we Forget.
