Mundy Creek Natureway Regeneration Project

Mundy Creek Natureway Regeneration Project Our goal is to preserve, regenerate and maintain the ecological and cultural values of Mundy Creek, Thindanga.

We work voluntarily and collaboratively with community, Townsville City Council, Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc to achieve these goals. This is a multi-disciplinary (arts, environment and cultural heritage), site-specific, community initiative project. It is also an official Landcare site through Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc. https://www.cdtli.org.au/

To read our Riparian Management Plan (2

012-13) and our (concept) Cultural Tourism (2014) development plans go to:

The project area:
- is on Gurambilbarra Wulgurukaba land
- is part of the Greater Town Common
- lies between Lockheed Street, Garbutt and south of the Airport / Old Common Road
- is mostly on Townsville City Council road reserve
- contains riparian plantings on the western bank that are maintained by community volunteers
- includes the waterways and the land on both sides of the creek
- has expansive views to the surrounding ranges and the adjacent grassland is an endangered, ecologically significant area
- is under threat and has been diminished over the past 8 years by neighbouring building developments, introduced weed species, pollution and vandalism
- is cared for community volunteers and TCC. Since 2013 we have planted 1200 trees, removed hundreds of kg of dumped waste and removed acres of weeds.

Peter Garrett AM appointed chair of the Landcare Australia Board ๐ŸŒฟ

Weโ€™re pleased to announce Peter Garrett AM has been appointed chair of the Landcare Australia Board, with Doug Humann AM stepping down after an exceptional 9 year tenure.

Peter is well known as an environmentalist, musician and former national Environment Minister. He has been a long-time campaigner on a range of local and global issues, advocating for stronger laws to protect biodiversity, addressing the climate emergency, and supporting land conservation initiatives, Indigenous rights and reconciliation.

With a strong record of supporting community-led land stewardship through policy, funding and advocacy, in his role as chair, Peter plans to use his โ€˜force for goodโ€™ to support the work of the landcare movement.

Peter Garrett AM said โ€œAustraliaโ€™s Landcare has been an outstanding world first conservation program, bringing together community, farmers and First Nations people to produce healthy and productive landcapes. I relish the opportunity to take this role and help build on the great work underway right across the country.โ€

Doug has played a pivotal role in transforming Landcare Australia over the last decade. His legacy is his leadership of Landcare Australiaโ€™s commitment to fostering collaboration with First Nations people and organisations through the Working Group and across the Landcare Australia team. This achievement marks a significant step towards achieving environmental sustainability in Australia.
