π§ͺπ‘οΈ Year 9 Science students recently conducted a student-led investigation exploring how heat energy is transferred and how different materials act as insulators. Working collaboratively π€, students designed and created their own insulation materials and carried out experiments to test the R-value and effectiveness of various materials in reducing heat transfer through conduction, convection, and radiation π₯β‘οΈβοΈ.
π After collecting and analysing their data, students identified which materials provided the most effective insulation and discussed how their findings apply to everyday life. They explored practical uses of insulation in π homes, π clothing, π₯€ drink bottles, and π§ eskies, examining how insulation helps maintain temperature, improve energy efficiency, and reduce heat loss or heat gain.
π¬ This hands-on investigation allowed students to apply scientific inquiry skills, analyse real-world problems, and gain a deeper understanding of the important role insulation plays in our daily lives. Well done to our Year 9 scientists for their curiosity, teamwork, and critical thinking! ππ
