The high risk stinger season is officially over 🙌

Over the course of the stinger season Lifeguards perform daily preventative stinger drags to give us an insight into the daily stinger risk.

With water temperatures now below 24 degrees and there being no recent captures or sightings together with will be removing all Townsville nets across the next three days.

Lifeguards will be patrolling the following beaches daily throughout the winter months:
🏖️Strand North (9am - 5pm)
🏖️Alma Bay (8:30 - 3:30)
🏖️Horseshoe Bay (8:30 - 3:30)

Remember stingers may be present year round so continue to wear protective clothing where possible and always swim between the flags.

You may notice the Strand is looking a little different next time you visit.

Surf Life Saving QLD working alongside has installed stage 1 of a project designed to bring all beach access signage to the Australian Standard.

Each sign includes:
📍Beach Name
🚨 Emergency Location Numbers
⚠️ Warnings relevant to that location
ℹ️ Lifeguard patrol information
🚫 Regulations

If you are involved in/or witness an emergency please dial 000 and quote the green location number.

⚠️ Turtle Nesting ⚠️

Sea Turtles have been observed nesting along the strand in recent weeks. To help protect nesting turtles and emerging hatchlings please follow these guidelines.

Nesting (Nov–Mar)
✋If you see a nesting turtle, keep your distance
🔦No bright lights — torches, phones, and movement can cause turtles to abandon nesting
👀While she is digging and laying, watch from behind, staying still and quiet
🐢As she returns to the ocean, lights off and give her space

Hatchlings (mid-Jan–late Mar)
✋Keep clear of the nest — do not obstruct their path
🔦Lights off at all times — light disorients hatchlings
🚫DOGS ARE PROHIBITED ON ALL STRAND BEACHES
🤲Never handle hatchlings — interference affects their survival

Protecting turtles starts with giving them space.
