Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre is almost 85% complete!

Sustainability is at the heart of the new centre in north Torquay, with 490kW of solar panels now installed across the roof.โ˜€๏ธ

The centre will operate without on-site usage of fossil fuels, with an airtight building design, lower pool hall ceilings and low-profile glazing also helping to reduce heat loss and energy use. All rainwater will also be retained and reused onsite.

Construction update:

๐Ÿ˜ก Illegal dumping costs ratepayers money. ๐Ÿ˜ก

Just last week, Council staff had to put other work on hold to collect parts of a dismantled caravan strewn along a rural road, then clean up the area and pay the landfill disposal fees. (There's no rubbish fairy to take care of it...)

Even more annoying: much of the rubbish we have to deal with can be taken to a transfer station for FREE, like car batteries, cardboard boxes, old appliances and electronics, polystyrene, metal fencing, old BBQs and more.

What can YOU do?
๐Ÿ‘‰ Keep an eye out for suspicious dumping activity.

๐Ÿ‘‰ If you see someone dumping rubbish, donโ€™t approach them, but get as many details as you safely can like:
#โƒฃ Vehicle registration number #โƒฃ
๐Ÿš˜ Vehicle make, model and colour ๐Ÿš˜
๐ŸงŸโ€โ™€๏ธ Description of the person ๐ŸงŸโ€โ™€๏ธ
๐Ÿ“ Time and location ๐Ÿ“
โš  Any other identifying details โš

๐Ÿ‘‰ Report what youโ€™ve seen to Council on our website.

Every report is investigated by Councilโ€™s Litter Prevention Officer, and fines of up to $10,000 may apply.
