We wanted to share with you our favorite story from each day last week.

Thursday - A young couple who have spent the last 6 weeks living in their car came in with wonderful news, they just landed housing and needed to fill their new pantry. We spent the afternoon celebrating with them and ensuring they had the food supplies needed to fill their new kitchen with food.

Friday - We spread the word throughout the community that NourishEd was fully stocked and ready to go. Over 60 households walked through our doors and accessed free food support and friendship. Our tables and chairs were full all day of guests not wanting food, but a chat and to spend time playing games and chess with our volunteers. We also hosted our first two haircuts in preparation for our hairdressings service opening next Friday.

Saturday - Our first Orange Sky service. Rough sleepers from across Toronto came in to escape the rain, we provided them with hot drinks, hot meals and food to get through the weekend.

We see over 150 guests every single week. Each have a story worth telling and each come to us asking for help and seeking support. Whatever their story, background, situation or circumstance - we are here for all, and everyone is welcome at NourishEd.

FREE HAIRCUTS HAVE ARRIVED AT NOURISHED! 💇‍♀️💇‍♂️

We're so excited to announce the launch of our newest community initiative – free hairdressing services at NourishEd Australia!

This has been a long time coming, particularly for our wonderful volunteer Vina, who has been advocating for this program for over a year and patiently waiting for the opportunity to bring it to life. ❤️

Like everything we do at NourishEd, this initiative is entirely volunteer-driven and made possible by people generously giving their time and skills to support our community.

We're starting small, with approximately five appointments available each Friday, but we hope this is the beginning of something much bigger!

📅 Fridays only

✂️ Completely FREE

📍 Bookings are essential and can ONLY be made in person at our reception. No online, phone or social media bookings will be accepted.

A haircut might seem like a small thing, but for someone experiencing hardship, it can make a world of difference to their confidence, dignity and wellbeing.

A huge thank you to Vina and everyone helping bring this initiative to life. We can't wait to see it grow and we're really excited to be joining countless other local organisations in offering haircuts to our community. ❤️

Pig Day Out 2026 was a massive success! Hundreds of locals poured into Toronto Hotel to attend the annual pig race and fundraising efforts. The weather and vibe were superb. We could not have asked for a better day!

$20,000 was raised for NourishEd and will go a long way in supporting our pantry and kitchen projects as well as things such as rent! We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the community for support. As we enter a record-breaking Christmas period where more families and households are expecting to require support than ever before, these funds will go a great length to support our local community with access to food and friendship.

We cannot thank our great friends at Rotary Club Toronto Sunrise NSW enough for their tremendous support, organising and running of this wonderful event. Months of tireless work went into putting the day together and we thank them for producing yet another great community event.

We also would like to thank Toronto Hotel for being wonderful hosts and supporters of the event.

Finally thank you to out wonderful volunteers for helping out and attending on the day as well as anyone in the community who rocked up and came to support.

Thank you, Transgrid! 💙

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming some of our wonderful friends from Transgrid to NourishEd for a tour of our community hub and a firsthand look at the work happening behind the scenes.

Transgrid has been a major supporter of our Café Project, helping us continue to build a welcoming space where people experiencing hardship can access more than just practical support.

Our café is about creating a place where people can sit down, enjoy a free meal or hot drink, have a conversation and feel connected to their community. For many of our guests, those moments of connection and kindness can be just as important as the food itself.

We’re incredibly grateful to Transgrid for believing in our vision and investing in a project that will help us support thousands of people across Lake Macquarie.

And we're only getting started… 👀

There are some very exciting things coming for our café and we can't wait to share more with you soon!

A huge thank you to the entire Transgrid team for your support of NourishEd and our community. 💙
