Another round, another day of tough football in classic Toowoomba rain. Wednesday’s SPL fixtures were played in horrible, drizzly conditions from start to finish, but our academy students once again showed resilience, effort, and pride in the jersey.
Junior Boys were outstanding defensively, only going down 1–0 in a tightly contested match. A special mention to Brodie, who produced some fantastic saves to keep the boys in the game right until the end.
Junior Girls faced another tough challenge, but their determination and willingness to keep competing for every ball continues to impress the coaching staff.
Intermediate Boys had a strong first half and led 1–0 for most of it. Unfortunately, momentum shifted after the break and the game slipped away late, but there were plenty of positives to take from the performance.
Senior Boys battled hard all day, with Sanyu finding the back of the net with some quality finishing. Despite the effort, the result didn’t quite fall our way this time.
Senior Girls produced one of the performances of the day, with Bree on fire scoring two goals. The girls pushed strongly right to the final whistle, but the match ended in a narrow 3–2 loss.
A huge thank you goes to the students who helped with set up and pack down in the drizzly rain all day long. Those extra efforts behind the scenes do not go unnoticed, and the coaches are incredibly appreciative of the students who continue to step up and help the academy whenever needed.
Well done to all of our MVP and Team of the Match recipients. Your effort, attitude, and performances were recognised by the coaching staff, and we thank our valued sponsor Urth Cafe & Co for supporting our players with MVP vouchers.
Five rounds in, and our players continue to show toughness, growth, and commitment no matter the weather. Rain might be winning the battle lately, but it’s definitely not taking away the spirit of this academy.
